NATIONAL BANK OPEN

August 9, 2022

Emma Raducanu

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Press Conference

C. GIORGI/E. Raducanu

7-6, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Questions?

Q. Probably not the way you wanted to come back and play in your hometown.

EMMA RADUCANU: Yeah, I think it was a really good match, to be honest. I think that the level was pretty high. Especially in the first set.

And Camila is a great opponent. She won this tournament last year. I just need to get better at dealing with players who play probably as quick as she does.

Q. Have you had a chance to tour around Toronto since you got back here?

EMMA RADUCANU: Not yet. I've been at the club all day, so I probably will get a chance to today and tomorrow maybe.

Q. Can I ask you, the news that Serena is going to retire after the US Open, what are your thoughts on that?

EMMA RADUCANU: Yeah, I mean it's incredible her career. She has achieved so much. And to see her around in this U.S. swing is really inspiring. Like she keeps playing because she obviously loves the game.

And I think that longevity of a career is something that a lot of the players and me especially we aspire to achieve as well.

Q. What kind of a legacy will she leave in tennis for other tennis players?

EMMA RADUCANU: I think that she definitely changed the game. To dominate that much, I think that it was, well there's not really been someone who has dominated like her in the women's game. So I think she did change the game a lot in that respect.

Q. Have you played her before?

EMMA RADUCANU: No, never.

Q. Have you ever had a chance to talk to her and talk tennis or anything like that?

EMMA RADUCANU: No. We said "hi" a few times. I actually was warming up next to her this morning and then it started chucking it down in the rain. But yeah, that was it.

Q. You mentioned you were going to go to the hospital where you were born. Curious, are you going to meet the doctor who was born on the 13th as well?

EMMA RADUCANU: I'm not sure. I mean I would love to meet him. But I haven't had a chance to yet. And I don't really know his name. So maybe my parents would, but, yeah.
