AIG WOMEN'S OPEN

August 7, 2022

Steph Kryiacou

Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. Congratulations, an excellent week for you here at the AIG Women's Open, can you reflect on the week for us?

STEPH KYRIACOU: Yeah, I played pretty solid the whole week. Today was a bit yucky. I hit maybe three bad shots that cost me more than three shots. But yeah, still lots of positives to take. Still a couple things to work on but yeah, everything for me is trending, which I can't be too mad about that.

Q. Trending in the right direction and it looks like this could be your best result in a major championship, so you have to take a lot of confidence from that?

STEPH KYRIACOU: Yeah, I do. I played really well the whole week, like really solid. It's tough to get angry over a couple shots because I can't really let that define my whole week, so yeah.

Q. So competing against the best players in the world and you're right in the mix, top 10 and in contention, does it feel like in the future you could be contending and knocking on the door for a major win?

STEPH KYRIACOU: Yeah, I definitely have confidence in myself. It might sound a bit arrogant but I think I'm going to win majors. It's just a matter of time I feel.

Q. But to be a professional athlete, though, you have to have some sort of confidence, right? That's what drives you.

STEPH KYRIACOU: Yeah, if you you're not here to win or you don't think you're going to win, there's really no point in playing.

Q. So your strategy today was not only confidence but being aggressive and worst case scenario was shooting plus ten and it didn't happen. What worked for you today?

STEPH KYRIACOU: I think I just did the same stuff as yesterday. Just stayed patient. Again, a couple like silly shots, but what are you going to do.

Like I said, I didn't have ten over. I had even par. It's really windy. It's not the worst that could have happened.

Q. So the things that you learned this week that you can take to any golf course the rest of the season?

STEPH KYRIACOU: I think it was more mental for me. I stayed really patient and just waited for the birdies to come instead of trying to go out there and make heaps of birdies because again, links golf, the scores are not going to be like silly low. So yeah, just take that into the following weeks.
