AIG WOMEN'S OPEN

August 5, 2022

Leona Maguire

Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. Tell us about that, it was an eventful day and you stuck in and got your rewards.

LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, I feel like I played really well on the front nine. Hit some really nice shots. Didn't quite hole the putts I would like. Gave myself a lot of chances. Hit I thought a good shot at 11, got screwed in the bunker off the face, and hit a couple of bad iron shots into the par 3s on 4 and 13 and dropped those shots.

Birdied 14 and 15 which are probably two of the hardest holes out there, so that was a nice boost heading into those last few holes and 3-under for the last five, that's really good momentum heading into the weekend.

Q. What was your mindset going out this morning?

LEONA MAGUIRE: I would have liked to have got to four or five but just kind of have to take your chances where they come. Didn't take advantage of some of those holes and then I birdied two of the hardest holes. That's links golf, and you just really have to be patient. I feel like I did that today. It would have been easy to kind of get frustrated and finish a couple over. Dug in for those last few which was nice.

Q. You were rewarded for all the patience.

LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, I hit it in a few bunkers today and they are very penal. Try and stay out of them for the weekend.
