AIG WOMEN'S OPEN

August 5, 2022

Marina Alex

Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. Round of 69 overall 3-under on the championship, that's a really good way to play your first two days. How are you feeling?

MARINA ALEX: Yeah, you know, I got off to a great start yesterday and I had a little struggle in like the middle of my round. Probably didn't make good decisions off the tee on two holes and was kind of on the defence there.

So I readjusted today with club selection on those holes, and they both resulted in par which is was huge. I hit it well and hit a lot of greens today.

I had two 3-putts which bummed me out. One was on 17, so three-putt for par, which was a bummer after hitting a nice shot on the green from the right rough. But overall it was really solid. I feel like if I can keep doing what I'm doing and clean up the putting a little bit, it should be hopefully a great weekend.

Q. You definitely had perfect scoring conditions in the morning it looked like, the wind whipping around. What's it like out there?

MARINA ALEX: It was very breezy this morning. It was really cold this morning. So battling with how far the ball is going into the air and also into the wind and downwind, there's a lot of little variables.

It's turning out to be it looks like a nice day right now, now that we are done, but it was chilly. Overall I think we got pretty fair conditions. Yesterday afternoon and tomorrow morning.

I think the waves will be similar if I'm being honest. It didn't seem like there's been a drastic difference both whether you've played early/late or late/early. I'm just happy to get some rest this afternoon.

Q. Overall what's Muirfield been like for you? We heard so much coming into this week about the historic opportunities. What's it been like the experience been like?

MARINA ALEX: It's a great course. It's wonderful that we are here. Probably a long time coming but it's great and hopefully we will be back in the near future.

As long as the links-style goes, it's probably one of the fairest links golf courses. You hit golf shots and you usually get rewarded. You hit poor shots or you make poor decisions, yeah, you're going to have a tough time.

I've played a fair amount of links now. I think this is my ninth British, so yeah, there are some out there where you hit great shots and get bad bounces and you're in a terrible place. I feel like this course is really just a good test and if you're executing well, you're going to have opportunities.

Q. So you have two rounds under your belt looking at two more. What's the game plan for the weekend?

MARINA ALEX: More of the same. I'm going to plot a little bit and get more comfortable on the greens. Tough to hit balls. It's windy and just kind of -- I have to really just trust what I'm doing and feel comfortable, get some rest this afternoon and just get ready for the weekend.
