AIG WOMEN'S OPEN

August 4, 2022

Leona Maguire

Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. Good links test today?

LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, I played pretty steady. Hit a lot of greens and a lot of fairways, so it wasn't easy, could have squeezed another few shots. It was those two 3-putts were a little disappointing but other than that it was a pretty solid round I think to start.

Q. A couple of others, where another day you were in and just accept it on days like that, do you?

LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, it was tricky. The wind was buffering the putts around. Felt like I hit a couple nice putts, a couple burned the edge and gave myself some chances and that's really all you can do on links. Quick turnaround tomorrow, go out early and try to put a good one in in the morning.

You're hitting woods into a few of those holes, especially on the back nine, so you're not going to get too close to some of those pins, just the way the wind was. So yeah, just kind of grinding out those pars and those longer holes and taking your chances then sort of on the shorter holes.

Q. What did you feel you did especially well there today?

LEONA MAGUIRE: I think I stayed pretty patient, committed to my targets and didn't try and force it too much and that's really all you can do in those winds. It's a lot of crosswinds and you have to commit to your targets. I feet like I did that.
