AIG WOMEN'S OPEN

August 4, 2022

Lydia Ko

Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. Lydia, 71, how was the round today?

LYDIA KO: It was I think pretty solid. A few not so solid, it's pretty tricky out there. I feel like a lot of those holes are crossing, crossing or down, and I think it makes it extra tough for club selection and all that. You know, when the wind this strong, it doesn't only affect your long game but short game as well.

Overall it was solid. I feel like it could have been better but I think when it did get out of hand, I was able to manage it really well. I feel like it's a decent start.

Q. I know that they say a lot, you can't win it on the first day but you can lose it on the first day. Do you come out with the mentally of trying to survive the first day?

LYDIA KO: Today I knew was going to be the windiest day, but the last couple days have been pretty windy, so you know, it's nice that we actually got to play the Pro-Am a little late yesterday and then nine on Tuesday to just be able to see how the course plays. With the winds being west or southwest or any southerly winds, it makes it even tougher.

The practise prior really is helpful because sometimes you play and the practise rounds are so different to the tournament days but I feel like this week is going to be pretty similar because the wind strength and the prevailing is like always there. It's never going to really like flip from the east for some weird reason, I think.

I think that was actually like a good mindset. You have to be patient out there. It's not easy. You can get into a good rhythm of things but at the same time you can also lose strokes pretty quick. Just trying to be patient with that.
