U.S JUNIOR AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

July 28, 2022

Wenyi Ding

Bandon, Oregon, USA

Bandon Dunes Golf Resort

Quick Quotes

Q. How did you feel you played today?

WENYI DING: I feel really good. I catch a lot of birdies and saved a lot of pars. Actually, the last 18 holes here it's really windy, so big deal to handle a difficult position, so I feel really good today.

Q. How difficult was the wind?

WENYI DING: The maximum is 10, I think it's 8. Actually 10 is for the practice round -- I think it's 10. Today it's 8, I think.

Q. What was the best part of your game today? Was it driving, irons, putting?

WENYI DING: Actually driver is really good, and didn't make mistakes driving. Putting is also good.

Q. Even when your match is fairly easy, do you feel like you know this course fairly well?

WENYI DING: No. Actually for the practice round we only had one time to play on this course, so if I'm in China I could play many times I want.

Q. Are there any types of what we call links courses in China?

WENYI DING: Yes. I haven't seen this before in China, so this is a good feel to play.

Q. How would you compare this course to courses you play in China? What's different?

WENYI DING: It's more difficult. In China, the fairways, the grass is really long and soft. Here maybe you miss a green and the ball will go maybe 30 yards far. That's really hard.

Q. When you came to this event, what were your expectations coming in?

WENYI DING: Actually just make the cut. This is my second time came to America. I'm not sure what's going on on this course. My first idea is just make the cut.

Q. I noticed you have a local caddie; how much is he helping you?

WENYI DING: I think 70 percent to 80 percent.

Q. What kind of things is he telling you out there?

WENYI DING: How much wind you should plus or minus, and we said it's higher, and maybe when you putt you should considering the wind, where the winds come.

Q. In your mind, making the quarterfinals, how big a deal is that for you?

WENYI DING: I think it's really great because I didn't feel good before this competition. I'm trying to find my way to play the golf, and I think I found it.
