TRUST GOLF WOMEN'S SCOTTISH OPEN

July 28, 2022

Lilia Vu

Troon, Scotland, UK

Dundonald Links

Quick Quotes

Q. So, very well played out there. As you just said, it's your first time in Scotland, and I bet you are pretty glad you made the travel over here. One off the lead. Tell me about your round.

LILIA VU: Thank you. It was a shaky start, honestly, the first three holes. Didn't find any fairways. I thought it was going to be a rough day. But somehow I made up-and-down from a couple areas, and I just kept my head down and tried to hit those fairways.

And then it came along on the par-5, I was able to birdie, and I think that really got me going. And then I just played one shot at a time, and that's how I played today.

Q. The heavens opened for a little bit out there. And then it was dead calm again, wasn't it? So you're probably not quite so used to playing in those sort of conditions. But you seemed to cope with it quite comfortably.

LILIA VU: Honestly, I was just laughing with my caddie, we're like, okay, this is the taste of Scotland. I was expecting this. But the past couple days have been so pretty. So, yeah, definitely got a taste of Scotland today.

Q. I was looking a little bit at your career of recent times. You're playing so well. The confidence has clearly come back. Did you think you'd be able to do that in links golf as well?

LILIA VU: I tend to like links golf. The wind hasn't picked up quite as I expected yet. So I'm just anticipating that, honestly.

Q. Do you enjoy the wind, then? When it blows here, it really blows. So is that something you're actually looking forward to playing in?

LILIA VU: Yes, I do enjoy the wind a bit. So I'm excited to play.

Q. What a round. You told me you didn't really know that there were that many birdies on the card, didn't really know what you shot. But you had an interesting stretch. You had back-to-back birdies, par, back-to-back birdies, par, and then back-to-back birdies again. What's going through your head during those moments?

LILIA VU: Honestly, I think this course is a little bit challenging with where you want to hit off the tee and where you want to place yourself on the fairway to go to a certain pin. And I think I really focused on where I wanted to hit, where I wanted to have a birdie putt.

So I did most of that, just one shot at a time.

Q. Almost holed out there on the last. Just kind of walk me through that shot.

LILIA VU: I asked John 80 front, we accidentally hit our approach shot -- our layup shot a little further, and it was 83 yards, and I said it was perfect, and hit my 56 to a foot, basically.

Q. That kind of start in a tournament like this, your first time in Scotland, but how good does that make you feel just after your -- you know, first time here, playing so well, first time in this event?

LILIA VU: I think it just excites me for the next week, the British next week, and, I don't know. I'm having fun out here, honestly.

Q. You're trending upward. Let's be honest. You've played really, really solidly this season by anyone's measure. What's changed for you? I know you get back out here, you're confidence was a little bit higher than it had been in the past.

LILIA VU: I think I'm just enjoying myself more. I was a little bit of a party-pooper last week. I was just in a bad mood. And then I had some self-reflections. I missed the cut by 1, but anyone would kill to be in my position to play in France, and Evian, it's so beautiful there.

I was telling my mom, I was in such a bad mood, I complained about everything. And I'm just trying to be -- just appreciate everything and be grateful for where I am, honestly.

Q. In a good spot heading into the rest of the week and I'm sure grateful to be in that spot. What's the mindset as you take on more of what is true Scottish weather as it gets a little chillier and gets a little wetter?

LILIA VU: I'm just going to stay patient. Never know what the weather is like, if it's going to rain super hard or be windy. Just expect everything and just be ready, honestly.

Q. And then you've had your mom here with you the past couple weeks in Europe, but I'm assuming for the rest of the European swing. What does it mean for you to share this experience with her? To have her over here with you, how much has that helped, or what does it mean to you?

LILIA VU: Oh, it helps a lot, having my mom. She's like my best friend. So just traveling with my friend on the road. And we like to do little things like go shopping and then go out to eat. So it's super fun.
