THE AMUNDI EVIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

July 22, 2022

Nelly Korda

Evian-les-Bains, France

Evian Resort Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Talk us through how you saved the best for last down 18, that second shot.

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, yesterday I was struggling with the ball below my feet. I was kind of hitting it out right I told myself, I'm going to aim a little bit more left, and I did actually fade it out to the right, and thank God I aimed a little left and just turned out perfect.

Q. Ten straight pars to start. You looked like you were ready to go when I caught you on the 11th. Talk to us about the mental battle today as opposed to yesterday where everything was just kind of flowing. You looked really patient.

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, you're my good luck charm. I don't know. I think the pins are in a bit trickier spots today. I was hitting solid shots. I wasn't hit it as good as yesterday. Maybe hitting it as close, but I was still hitting solid putts.

Honestly, they were kind of stress-free pars, and finally got one going on 11 and kind of kick started my day a little.

Q. Quick turnaround. Got the afternoon off. What does the rest of the day look like for you?

NELLY KORDA: A nap. 100% a nap. I barely slept last night. I don't know what it is this year, but I'm really struggling with jet lag.

Q. Well you earned a nap today.

NELLY KORDA: Thank you.

Q. It was a quiet opener to your day today.

NELLY KORDA: Yeah.

Q. When did you turn it on on the back nine? What changed?

NELLY KORDA: On No. 11 I finally got one in. I hit it good, too. Gave myself a pretty good look. The looks I got had a lot of breaks, too, so they weren't easy putts.

So I finally had just like a left to righter that barely broke, and committed to my line and rolled it in.

Unfortunately I made my first bogey today of the week, but I backed it up with a good birdie.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the way I'm playing. I hope to capitalize more on the par-5s going into the weekend. I think that's where I've kind of struggled a little.

I've given myself really good opportunities around the greens; just haven't kind of chipped it up close. I'm hoping that is something I improve on going into the weekend.

Q. But then the last hole, I know you gave Ally the description and we got that, but what was the club and yardage in?

NELLY KORDA: That's a good question about yardage, but I had a 5-hybrid in and I had 192. I tried to kind of control a hybrid in because it wasn't really sitting that great in the first cut. It was kind of sitting a little down, and I didn't really want to crush a 5-iron because I did not want to repeat what I did yesterday. Rather go long.

Q. You kept your feet dry this time.

NELLY KORDA: Yes.

Q. Then how long was the putt?

NELLY KORDA: The putt, probably like two and a half feet.

Q. Nice. Good way to finish a round.

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, nice; stress-free.

Q. Pin positions looked really tricky out there today. Looking at 15, holy crap with the ridge there. Golf course, a lot slope. We know this. How do you adjust when the pins are really tucked in those corners? You seemed to handle 18 okay.

NELLY KORDA: Yeah, I mean, sometimes you just -- unfortunately like you have to know where to miss. Sometimes obviously you don't miss where you want to or hit it where you want to and you come up with a tricky putt.

That's just Evian. Everyone is going to have that. That's the defense of this golf course, is you never have a flat lie and you're putting over a lot of ridges.

So I think they made the pin positions a little harder and we'll see how this afternoon goes, but I think I played well with the course setup.

Q. I know you said obviously this hasn't been your best finishing tournament in recent years. How good does it feel to get two really solid rounds under your belt?

NELLY KORDA: Really good. Honestly, super good. A little pat on my back after two days hopefully it keeps going that way.
