U.S. GIRLS' JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

July 21, 2022

Reese McCauley

Bowling Green, Kentucky, USA

The Club at Olde Stone

Press Conference

Q. 2-down with two to play and two birdies to go to 20 holes?

REESE McCAULEY: Yeah, that was crazy. I don't know how that happened.

Q. Take me through your mindset as you get up to 17 and you're thinking, I'm one tied hole from going home?

REESE McCAULEY: Yeah, I don't know. I was just going up to the hole and I knew I had to get those two holes. I was a little nervous but not too bad. I was like, whatever happens happens. Either way I made it farther than I thought I would. On 17 I hit it pretty close to a couple feet and then just made the putt for birdie. Then 18 it was a little longer of a putt.

Q. How long was the putt you made?

REESE McCAULEY: Maybe like 15 feet.

Q. That's a good sized putt to force extra holes.

REESE McCAULEY: Yeah, so that was that hole. I was happy. I was happily surprised to be honest with you. I was not expecting that.

Q. You knocked out a player that's got pretty good credentials.

REESE McCAULEY: Yeah, they were both very good golfers. I'm honestly happily surprised to be where I'm at right now, but it's been fun.

Q. You're into the quarterfinals. Now that means you're exempt for next year.

REESE McCAULEY: Really? I didn't even know that, okay. Well, that's exciting.

Q. The qualifying as everybody knows is the hard part to get here.

REESE McCAULEY: Yeah, absolutely.

Q. What were your expectations? You came here with your older sister who played in the Open last year.

REESE McCAULEY: Yeah, I know, and she's played in this last year -- I think a couple years. I don't know, I guess I didn't have too many expectations, mainly just to make match play to be honest, and yeah, just to have fun. Yeah, I didn't expect to make it this far, that's for sure, but mainly just to make match play.

Q. You're into the quarters; what are you feeling right now?

REESE McCAULEY: I'm feeling kind of tired, pretty tired. But I'm feeling good. I'm excited to finish it. It's a good experience for sure.

Q. You're three wins away from winning this thing. Do you even take time to think about all the stuff that comes with winning the Girls' Junior or just kind of in the moment?

REESE McCAULEY: Yeah, just kind of in the moment, just focusing on what's important, I guess.

Q. Does your sister give you any advice this week? She's been through this before.

REESE McCAULEY: I think more like in the beginning, but honestly, yeah, we're both kind of going through it together. Yeah, she's been out here supporting, though, each day, so it's been super sweet.

Q. But no caddie?

REESE McCAULEY: No, she didn't caddie. I've got a good caddie right now.

Q. Is he local?

REESE McCAULEY: No, he -- well, for now, yeah. He lives like 30 minutes, 40 minutes away.

Q. You didn't know him before this week?

REESE McCAULEY: No.
