THE AMUNDI EVIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

July 19, 2022

Lydia Ko

Evian-les-Bains, France

Evian Resort Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Lydia Ko. Taking some time off since Pine Needles. Been a few events since we've seen you. What did you do during that time off?

LYDIA KO: Yeah, three weeks off. I feel like the off weeks go by really quick. Spent pretty much a week in Korea, which I hadn't been back in a while, and then back stateside for a week and a half.

But with all the traveling and everything I feel like you lose some days along the way. Off weeks always go by quicker than other weeks.

But, yeah, always nice to take that time off and excited for this next three weeks in a row for me.

Q. This is a lot of big time major golf in a very short amount of time. How much have you learned to kind of take that rest when you can from years maybe you hadn't done that before?

LYDIA KO: When you play well I guess it's nice because you're on that momentum. I guess sometimes though it is like a lot of weeks in a row, and like for me, I had to play some weeks in between, so it can get I think sometimes more mental fatigue than physical fatigue.

It's fun. We get to go to stateside and play a couple events, couple big ones, and then come here in Europe. You feel like Chevron was like a long time ago from now, but I think just being on the road, like just making sure that I'm not over working out or not like overdoing things and just getting plenty of rest in between.

Q. Back here at Evian, site of one of your major wins. How special is it for you to walk on these grounds and be here and know that you're one of these champions?

LYDIA KO: Sometimes I think the round I had when I won, I don't know how I did that. At the same time, it's nice to come back to a place you played well at.

When I won I think it was in September, so to be playing in July where there is a little bit better weather is nice. Franck has been a huge supporter in trying to grow this game, and he's trying to make the course conditions and the hospitality and everything better year by year.

So, yeah, no, it's always cool to be part of that trend where the partners are excited as much as us to make this tournament even better.

So, yeah, I think it's going to be an exciting week. It's a great field once again. So many players playing good golf. So, yeah, it will be an exciting one to watch for sure.

Q. What do you like about this golf course in particular?

LYDIA KO: I think it can be pretty creative. The greens have some undulations, so can work to your favor, and I guess the other way around as well.

But, yeah, just having that I guess -- even when I won I know that I was in the rough and I used the rough to my -- like rough and like the slope to my advantage.

So I feel like you can be very creative and it's not really for one type of player, which I always like for golf courses, and especially at majors.

Q. Besides the obvious, what are some of your goals this week?

LYDIA KO: I played pretty solid last year here, and just I think keeping it like in the fairways is pretty important. I know it's drying up but the rough is still pretty long, so I think that's just going to make the play a lot easier. Any course is, but especially around here.

So, yeah, just being confident and sticking to my game plan, and I think when I'm able to like play freely and confidently, that's when I play the best.

So it's always I think a goal of mine.
