THE 150TH OPEN

July 17, 2022

David Law

St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, UK

Mixed Zone

DAVID LAW: It was good. Determined to go out there and enjoy it today. Last night we had a really nice night, with Curry, a few beers, me, my caddie, his girlfriend, my wife, kids, Natasha's mom and her partner. Really nice night.

The whole goal was to go out there enjoy the day. We did that, and yeah, it was a decent score.

Q. Should have done that a few times earlier. The curry and beer formula? Just helps you take your mind off it?

DAVID LAW: Exactly. It was probably what we needed after yesterday's day. Take the mind off of it and relax a little bit.

Q. A few birdies today. What was the peck of them, would you say?

DAVID LAW: Probably the 15th, holed about a 30-footer, down the hill around the corner a little bit, which was good. We got a nice big cheer there, which was nice. And I just really enjoyed it, that back nine especially, when the crowds were out and things it was a good day.

Q. Eagle chance at the last?

DAVID LAW: Yeah, I looked at the putt and thought this is the last thing you want to do is ram this four-foot past and have that coming back. Actually did the opposite, four-foot down the hill left. So it was good to drive the green and walk up the 18th with a putter in my hand.

Q. All in all a great week, the memories of this week, just fantastic?

DAVID LAW: Absolutely. These were two weeks that I wasn't expecting to be playing. So I played the two of them, and I'm tired, obviously. But it was a really special week to be part of. We've all really enjoyed it. We've taken everything in. It was everything I expected it to be.

And to play three really good days of golf, I take a lot of confidence from it. And it gives me the hunger to really want to be in that position more and gives me the belief that I can be.

Q. First major must have been something you were looking forward to for a long time. Has it felt quite natural, as an experience being here among it?

DAVID LAW: Yeah, I think so. I think I'm at that stage in my career where I'm not really over awed by that sort of situation. You're obviously nervous, but I'm sure everyone is.

I feel more than confident that I can handle my own at this sort of level. And the goal is to be playing in these tournaments more often.

Q. Was Paul here today?

DAVID LAW: I'm not sure. I didn't see him today.

Q. Do you golf next week?

DAVID LAW: We golf, yeah, really looking forward to it. And I'm going to play the Fairmont. Play the Fairmont, Wales and Ireland.

Q. Had a chance last year?

DAVID LAW: I was right in the hunt. Hopefully these last few weeks are a stepping stone to really being in contention again and try and win again on the TOUR.

Q. Shock to the system, Carnoustie, it will be a big tournament, but it will be slightly different scale to the last couple of weeks?

DAVID LAW: It will be. It will be. But it's always nice to play at home. We've actually got a house just in the town. So it will be a good week, have everyone there. I really enjoyed the week last year.

Q. Is there one special memory you'll take away from this week, one shot, one thing you did that you want to look back on?

DAVID LAW: Probably the 13th hole on Friday. We're level-par with about six or seven holes to play and I holed about a 30-footer there to get under-par for the tournament and really kickstart the round almost. So it was a special one. Holed that putt and the goosebumps were there. And big cheer from the grandstands. That would be the one I remember.
