THE 150TH OPEN

July 17, 2022

Brad Kennedy

St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. Aside from the last few holes, playing the weekend for the first time, how has the experience been?

BRAD KENNEDY: I don't know. Right now I'm pretty pissed off, to be honest. As you said, the last few holes, I had a three-putt on 13. I made a nice turn, missed a short one on 10, three-putted the 13, and that just sort of flicked me beard.

Just a couple of drives coming in, just didn't quite hit my lines. Had two of the worst lies the whole week, 16, 17. And I had two bogeys. Probably in an hour's time I'll feel a bit better about it. Right now, I just wanted to put in a good effort. I wanted to see what I could do out there this week and put myself in a position that was new and challenging and felt I it did that on Friday and just haven't hit enough good golf shots the last few days. Just kept giving myself too many long putts, and eventually you sort of pay the price around a links course like St Andrews.

Yeah, I guess making the cut's good, but finishing back end of the field on the weekend, shooting two 72s pretty much doesn't really matter.

Q. You still played some good golf throughout the week. Does that give you some confidence that you can perform well at this level and take it up to the best players?

BRAD KENNEDY: Yeah, I've got to find a bit more. I'm 48 now, so I haven't got much time left. Yeah, I just really wanted to see what I could do this week. It just doesn't get any better than St Andrews, 150th.

My wife's here with me trying to enjoy the experience. Yeah, I just wanted to prove to people that, if you fight and you work hard and put yourself out there, give yourself some opportunities, practise the right way, that at any stage anything's possible, and I just felt like I let myself down on the weekend.

Q. Will you go out and watch the last few groups or just get away from the golf course?

BRAD KENNEDY: No, I want to go out and watch. I've got friends out from America, people from Australia. I'll try and catch up with them sometime this afternoon. Yeah, just sit back with friends, have a drink, and see what unfolds. Yeah, hopefully it's going to be the great finish that the tournament deserves.

Q. What's your schedule looking like for the next few months?

BRAD KENNEDY: About three weeks off before we head back to Japan. I'll probably have maybe 10 events in 13 or 14 weeks. There's going to be a lot of frustration and purpose coming out of this.

I think, if I can use it the right way and create some determination from it, then better luck in Japan this year.

Q. And into (indiscernible) in summer as well?

BRAD KENNEDY: I'm not sure if I'll get back because the tournaments in Japan clash. I'll have to make that choice again. I'm not sure which way I'll go. It will just depend on how I'm playing throughout the season in Japan. I probably won't be able to make that decision until a couple of weeks beforehand.

Either way, I've got two opportunities. It's just given me a little bit of understanding of how much more I can do. It's just a matter of now going back and focusing on how to practise more in that environment, which I've been doing fairly well. Again, just got to put myself out there and keep pushing the envelope.
