THE 150TH OPEN

July 16, 2022

Filippo Celli

St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. Tell us a little bit about your round today. How did it feel? Your first goal was to get here. Second goal was to make the cut. Now it's a different mindset. What are your goals now?

FILIPPO CELLI: Today I played really good. The ball striking was really good. I was actually so unlucky on the first four holes because I hit, like, a perfect iron to the pin, and I putted from, like, 7 metres, the shortest one, because they bounce so hard on the green on the (indiscernible).

But my ball striking was so good. I was 2-under on the 10 tee, and I made a bad bogey on 11 and a three-putt on 12. So a couple of mistakes mentally, but my ball striking was really good.

Q. After making the cut yesterday, then you have two days now. So what is your goal for tomorrow? How do you want to finish tomorrow?

FILIPPO CELLI: Tomorrow I'm going to go on the course and try to fight until the end and play the best golf ever. Then we'll see. But tomorrow, I think is a rainy day. So we'll see.

Q. You played here, correct? Not too long ago, a few months ago, a tournament?

FILIPPO CELLI: Yeah.

Q. How much did that prepare you, give you an insight into what you're seeing here these days?

FILIPPO CELLI: I mean, it was -- the course -- I knew the course, and it was like an advantage, but the course during this tournament played really, really hard than like last month.

The rough, actually the rough is pretty the same, but the green and the fairway are way harder than last month.

Q. Where do you think the state of Italian golf is now? Obviously Francesco is playing really well, Guido has been playing well. So more and more guys ahead of the Ryder Cup next year in Rome?

FILIPPO CELLI: Hopefully an Italian guy is on the European team, but it's not easy. I hope so. I hope I'm that Italian guy who will be playing in the Ryder Cup in Rome. It will be great.

Q. How much do you like the Ryder Cup venue in Rome? Marco Polo?

FILIPPO CELLI: No, Marco Simone.

Q. Marco Simone, sorry.

FILIPPO CELLI: It's a tricky course. It's a challenge. It's not long, it's short, but the greens are so green and slopy. I think it's very fun to play the Ryder Cup over there.
