THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 27, 2022

Caroline Garcia

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

C. GARCIA/Y. Miyazaki

4-6, 6-1, 7-6

THE MODERATOR: Could you tell us your thoughts about today's match, playing Emma Raducanu in the next round.

CAROLINE GARCIA: Yeah, it was a very difficult match for me. I got here late from Germany, and it's very different conditions there. It was a difficult match. I got used to the conditions and everything.

Yeah, I mean, it's obviously a great match to play against Raducanu in the next round. Obviously she's the big favorite here for the British fans, so I'm really looking forward to this match.

THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.

Q. You'll probably be on Centre Court. How is that going to feel playing there?

CAROLINE GARCIA: Yeah, It's great. It's going to be my first match on Centre Court, and it's always a pleasure to be playing on the big courts of the slams, and the one of Wimbledon is very special.

The roof is definitely good news. At least you know you are going to play and you don't have to wait. It's going to be a great atmosphere. Really looking forward to it.

Q. You played against her in Indian Wells? What was it like playing her? What kind of game does she have?

CAROLINE GARCIA: It was my first time playing against her a few months ago, and she's a very new player so you don't know much about her.

She's doing her way and doing very well. Yeah, I will have to play my game, try to be aggressive. I think she played well last year here, so she likes the grass court from Wimbledon.

Yeah, it's a good match to play, and I have to play my game and be aggressive.

Q. Will you relish the opportunity to play on Centre Court knowing that most of the crowd will probably want you to lose? Is that the sort of atmosphere you will enjoy?

CAROLINE GARCIA: I mean, it's part of the deal, eh? You know, like when I play in French Open, it's kind of the same in the other way around.

So you know what is going to happen, and I think it's completely fair. You know, you're not going to complain about it.

Most of the time in tennis I think British people are "nice." Obviously they want the British player to win, but they are still fair and respectful.

Normally I have nothing to say about it. It's completely normal they cheer for the player from their country.

Q. When you are playing the home favorite, is grass a good surface for you? Because you just won a title over the weekend. Is grass a good surface for you to be playing on right now?

CAROLINE GARCIA: It is what it is. You know, I play on grass court in Germany. It was like basically the totally opposite of these grass courts and the conditions were completely different.

But of course when you play aggressive game style and you want to move forward, grass is always a good option.

We played in hard court the last time, and it was three-setter. I don't know which one is the best. I just know the next one is on grass, and I will try my best to do the best I can.
