THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 28, 2022

Bianca Andreescu

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

B. ANDREESCU/E. Bektas

6-1, 6-3

THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.

Q. Can you give a quick résumé of the match from your point of view?

BIANCA ANDREESCU: Yeah, I think I played a very solid match from the start. I think I was serving well, returning well, I was very focused.

I didn't underestimate or overestimate my opponent going into the match. I felt like, yeah, from A to Z, I think I played really well.

Q. Were you nervous? You have not had a lot of experience at Wimbledon.

BIANCA ANDREESCU: I know. I know. I was actually talking to my trainer about my first time at Wimbledon, and it was great. Like my first three quallies matches I was killing it, like at the other site.

I go to the main site, and I completely froze, like I remember I could not put a forehand on the court.

So like looking back at that, and, you know, finally getting a win here in the main draw means a lot to me. That was like five years ago.

Q. You were a baby?

BIANCA ANDREESCU: Yeah, it was my first Grand Slam too. I didn't really think I would really do anything, but now I have bigger dreams.

Q. How was the turnaround from playing a final, coming here? Caroline Garcia said she was on fumes the first round. You had one more day than her. But how was it feeling on the court to have such little time maybe to recover?

BIANCA ANDREESCU: Yeah, I was definitely luckier than Caro. I mean, she literally had one day and then she played. I had two days. I mean, I played really late today.

So I guess that helped a little bit. I mean, it's part of the sport. You kind of just had to regroup and get ready for the next tournament. I think I did that well.

Q. Another tough match next, Rybakina.

BIANCA ANDREESCU: Okay. I didn't know that.

Q. Sorry.

BIANCA ANDREESCU: No, I needed to know at one point, right? (Laughter.)

Yeah, I mean, she's a great player. She's playing really good tennis right now. I think her game really suits the grass, so I'm expecting a tough match.

Q. You are on a bit of a roll here. Can you say a bit about where your head space is right now maybe compared to three or six months ago?

BIANCA ANDREESCU: Yeah, I think I'm in a really good area of my life right now, like all around. I'm just trying to have a growth mindset every day, just get better, continue to learn.

I try to leave an hour a day for myself, like to do things that I love. That includes learning, because I love learning about different things. And keeping like the same routines, same habits that I found work for me is super important.

Q. What are the things that you love, apart from your meditation, et cetera?

BIANCA ANDREESCU: I love watching things on Netflix. I love going on TikTok, sadly. I can find myself over an hour being on the app. I'm better at controlling myself with that. I love listening to music. I started making beats again, which I haven't done in a while. Talking to my friends, reading. Yeah, going for walks in nature. I love that too.

Q. What have you seen lately on Netflix that you really like?

BIANCA ANDREESCU: "God's Favorite Idiot." It's really good. I wanted to start "Man from Toronto." I have gotten mixed reviews on that, but I have to test it out myself.

Q. No quantum physics in there?

BIANCA ANDREESCU: No, no.

Q. Next year?

BIANCA ANDREESCU: Maybe (smiling). One step at a time.

Q. What do you think of the conditions of play compared to last week? They are much slower here now?

BIANCA ANDREESCU: The courts? Yeah, I find them much slower. The grass is softer, so yeah, that's what makes the courts slower.

It's also like the beginning of the week. I know towards the end you see pictures from the beginning of the week to the end of the week, and it's like completely different surface. It's crazy. But hopefully I can get to the end to test it out myself.

Q. Did you get to see the Centre Court?

BIANCA ANDREESCU: No, I didn't even go two days ago. Yeah, I wanted to go. I was too tired. I ended up going home. I should definitely do that. Thank you for reminding me.

Q. Rybakina will be a lot different than your first-round opponent. She's a tall girl with a big serve and all that. How do you think you have to readjust after this first round?

BIANCA ANDREESCU: Well, my opponent today, I think she served well. I know Rybakina also serves well as well. So I got some good, you know, feeling on, you know, playing an opponent with a good serve.

I mean, I think I'm going to expect a bit of a tougher match just, you know, rally-wise and maybe speed-wise. I have practiced with her a couple of times, so I kind of know how she hits. Not on grass. I was hitting with her on hard. But, yeah, I know she fights really hard, so I've got to fight harder (smiling).
