THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 29, 2022

Jannik Sinner

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

J. SINNER/M. Ymer

6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.

Q. I'd like to talk about Andy Murray if he ends up being your next opponent, so if I could ask you a couple of questions. What was your first memory of watching Andy on a tennis court?

JANNIK SINNER: Obviously he's part of a group who made history, being part of the Big Four and winning Grand Slams, especially in Wimbledon where he struggled to win, and then at the end he ended up winning.

So it's always a huge pleasure to play against him. I had already the chance to play against him two times already, so I know him also a little bit how he plays, but in the other way, it's grass so it's completely different. Yeah, so let's see if he wins or not today.

Q. Top players have an aura about them on a tennis court: Rafa, Roger, Novak. Do you think Andy has that, that aura on a tennis court, because he's won so many times?

JANNIK SINNER: I think so. Why not? I mean, he won majors. There was a point where always them four were in the semifinals, so for sure he's one of the best players this sport had, and yeah, I think so.

Q. If it is him, it's probably going to be on Centre Court, prime time, millions watching in the UK. Are you ready for that sort of challenge? Where does that rank in your career of what you have achieved?

JANNIK SINNER: Well, for sure it will be a special moment for me. Playing in Centre Court here in Wimbledon, it means a lot, so yeah, I didn't -- because you cannot practice there, you cannot have time there to see how everything is, so would be very nice. But for sure, yeah, let's see how he do this evening.

Q. If you face John Isner, what would you think of the challenge of that after the history you have had with him?

JANNIK SINNER: Well, it's for sure a very, very tough match, especially here on grass. He serves well. Hopefully I can read a little bit his serve, but it's one of the toughest challenge, returning John's serve, so yeah, it would be a very tough match.

There are for sure some important moments, you know, especially when he's serving, so for sure I try my best. I will be not so much rhythm, so let's see.

Q. What do you remember most about your last match with him?

JANNIK SINNER: I remember that I returned well there. But Davis Cup is a little bit different, so I lost last year in Cincinnati against him in three sets, so as I said, I'm expecting a tough match, so hopefully I can prepare. As I said, hopefully I can read a little bit his serve.
