THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 30, 2022

Petra Kvitova

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

P. KVITOVA/A. Bogdan

6-1, 7-6

THE MODERATOR: Petra, your initial thoughts on the match today.

PETRA KVITOVA: Always great questions (smiling).

THE MODERATOR: Thank you.

PETRA KVITOVA: My thoughts? It's mixed. I think it was great match from the beginning until 5-1, 5-2. Suddenly I felt, like, so exhausted kind of from the games I had. I don't know, it was just tough to describe. I got a little bit tighter and she just went for it a little bit more. She didn't miss. It was really tough to close it out.

I really thought that probably would be third set that I didn't even make it for the tiebreak. In the end I did. I don't know how. Probably my serve helped me for the set point over there.

Yeah, I made it. I'm still very exhausted. Yeah, I'm just glad that it's done, for sure.

Q. What for you have been the biggest challenges since you won here twice in trying to get back to that level?

PETRA KVITOVA: Every year is a big challenge for me, for sure. Dealing with the nerves and excitement in the same time is always a bit tough.

This year so far, it's okay. It's not the best, but it's not the worst as well. I'm still hanging in there.

Obviously I love this place. On the other hand I know sometimes when I get really tired, it's just disaster. Yeah, it's always two sides.

Q. When you walk through the gates, when you get to Wimbledon, every day that you're here, what are the little things about the place that make you feel best?

PETRA KVITOVA: Well, I mean, our locker room is just beautiful. Even the smell when I'm entering gates here, it's just smelling like a Wimbledon. It's always remind me of the historical tournament which we have.

Q. I'd like to do something a little unusual. Very briefly I would like to go through the different strokes in the game, and you tell me who has the best serve you've ever faced, then forehand.

PETRA KVITOVA: Serena.

Q. The best forehand?

PETRA KVITOVA: Active players, you mean?

Q. Yes.

PETRA KVITOVA: Just girls?

Q. Just women, yes.

PETRA KVITOVA: Forehand? I'm going to fall asleep...

Oh, my God. That's tough. Me (laughter).

Q. Backhand? Justine? Did you play Justine or Ash?

PETRA KVITOVA: But they are not active players, you said.

Q. I meant players that you have played. I'm sorry.

PETRA KVITOVA: Li Na then.

Q. Return?

PETRA KVITOVA: Serena.

Q. Volley?

PETRA KVITOVA: I didn't play her, but it's Martina Navratilova, for sure.

Q. Movement and anticipation?

PETRA KVITOVA: Aga Radwanska.

Q. Mental toughness?

PETRA KVITOVA: Serena.

Q. Thank you.

PETRA KVITOVA: You're welcome.

Q. (Question regarding women getting their periods and Wimbledon's all-white policy.)

PETRA KVITOVA: I didn't understand.

THE MODERATOR: When you're on your period.

PETRA KVITOVA: Yeah, I know it's not really comfort for girl playing in white when they have periods.

On the other hand I think that we can manage it somehow, as well. We do have lot of options about it, as well. Yeah, it's very unusual that you get it, like, during the match. It's can happen, of course.

I think still Wimbledon, it's white and it just should be white.

Q. How would you describe the matchup with Badosa and the keys to that match?

PETRA KVITOVA: Actually I just practiced her in Eastbourne before the tournament started. It was good practice. Pretty aggressive from both sides.

That's what I going to for sure be ready for. Big serves, great returns. She tries to play aggressively. But I think still that she likes more hard court and clay than the grass. Hopefully that could be my advantage a little bit.

But it will be great match, for sure. I'm really looking forward to play her.
