THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 30, 2022

Harmony Tan

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

H. TAN/S. Tormo

6-3, 6-4

THE MODERATOR: Your thoughts on today's match, please.

HARMONY TAN: So I'm really happy to win this match today, because it's my first third round on the Grand Slam, and for my first Wimbledon, it's amazing.

THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.

Q. What did the win against Serena do for you on Tuesday night? Did it change anything about coming in today? Did it give you more confidence?

HARMONY TAN: For me, it didn't change anything, because I'm in my bubble. I play my tennis. And I like grass court now (smiling).

Yeah, it was amazing to play Serena on Centre Court for the first round. But I was prepared for today, and, yeah, it was a really good match.

Q. You play Katie Boulter next, a British player. You might be on a show court again and with the crowd maybe supporting her. You thrived against Serena. Could you talk about that, how you enjoyed being the underdog in that situation?

HARMONY TAN: Yeah, Katie, she's a really good player on grass court. There will be maybe some public for her, but I'm prepared for that, because when I play Serena, there is a lot of public for her also.

And on the big court, yeah, I will be ready for Saturday.

Q. First a question for some information. Can you say who the people were in your box for the match against Serena, including the little girl?

HARMONY TAN: Yeah, the little girl, she's the niece of my coach, Sam Sumyk, and there is her mother, too. And there is Nathalie Tauziat in my box, my coach, my mom, and a lot of people, French people.

Q. Then in today's match you hit a tweener. How would you describe that point and your feeling about it?

HARMONY TAN: You know, I like to play tennis with this tweener, with everything, you know, with my hand, with everything you can do on tennis, and I really enjoy it when I do this tweener on the match.

Q. Have you seen a replay of it on television yet?

HARMONY TAN: No.

Q. What do you think it will mean to you when you get to watch it?

HARMONY TAN: I don't know, I didn't watch. I haven't seen it. What do you think about that?

Q. I haven't seen it yet, because I wasn't able to go to the match. I heard about it.

HARMONY TAN: Oh, okay.

Q. I have heard from other people. My colleague said it was amazing.

HARMONY TAN: Oh, really? (Laughter.)

Q. Wondered how your thigh is doing. I thought I might have seen you might have taken a couple of painkillers during the changeover. Was that right?

HARMONY TAN: Yeah, yeah. During the changeover, you mean?

Q. Yeah, I wondered how your thigh was feeling. You know, because obviously you had had...

HARMONY TAN: Yeah, yeah.

Q. Are you taking painkillers for it?

HARMONY TAN: Yeah, yeah. I took something. I took something to relax that, yeah.

Q. How have things played out about your withdrawal from the doubles? What were the communications you didn't have and had? Where do things stand now with the woman you were going to play with?

HARMONY TAN: We had a communication yesterday. I told her I can't play because I have something on my leg. I can't walk really good, and I had to take something, you know, some medical things to play today.

So, yeah, she was angry, but it's life. I mean, everybody walk over yesterday in doubles. I mean, six or seven alternate was in in doubles, so everybody was a walkover.

Q. How did things get resolved eventually?

HARMONY TAN: For?

Q. How did the communications eventually resolve with the woman who was going to be your partner? What did she say finally?

HARMONY TAN: She apologize this morning. She text me, and she apologize for this publication, and, you know, I don't like drama. I'm not like this. So I didn't answer.
