HORIZON IRISH OPEN

July 3, 2022

Shane Lowry

Thomastown, County Kilkenny, Ireland

Mount Juliet Estate

Quick Quotes

Q. 67 today, the steady progression for the week continues.

SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, if only the tournament was six rounds. But no, it was good. It was good again today. I'm happy with my weekend's work and I can take a lot of confidence from this going forward and looking forward to Adare for a couple of days and obviously getting ready for The Open, so yeah.

Q. Currently inside the top 10; a good showing?

SHANE LOWRY: It is, but like I said to Paul walking up 17, we're going to look at the winning score and go, whoever wins, we didn't do anything the first 27 holes and wasn't that far away.

But it's a nice week. It was an amazing week. Stressful first part of the week for me and I really enjoyed the weekend.

Q. I know there's a lot of demands on you guys in Irish Open week, how has it been for you?

SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, it's been busy. It's something I'm not used to, well, I do it every year here at the Irish Open but I'll be trying to get Rory back to play to take a bit of the limelight off myself.

It's been an amazing week. Crowds are amazing the Mount Juliet was great. Bit of bad weather thrown in here and there and other that it was really good. I enjoyed it.

Q. Unfortunately bad news --

SHANE LOWRY: I was walking to 17 tee and everybody was telling me they had won. I see my brother in the stand on 17 and he gave me the thumbs down, goal in the last minute. Devastating for those young lads. I'm sure they are distraught this afternoon but that's sport.

But you'll have your ups and your downs, and they will pick themselves up and move on and hopefully it's a bright future for them.

Q. We've talked about the Irish fans a lot this week but summarise the ovation you got coming down 18.

SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, it's pretty cool. Last time I remember that I was walking down with a six-shot lead in Portrush. It was an amazing week here in Kilkenny and I really enjoyed my time here. The crowds were incredible. I loved every part of it. Stressful to start the week. Stressful few days early on. But I did really enjoy my weekend.

Q. Other than those first couple of frustrating rounds, you must be happy where you are right now?

SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, first 27 holes were pretty poor and from there on it was really good.

So yeah, excited now for The Open. Excited to get playing a bit of links golf and getting ready and working towards that and looking forward to St Andrews.

Q. You have a week before the event. You'll spend a couple of days at JP McManus's at Adare. How will you prepare?

SHANE LOWRY: Just a bit of links golf around Dublin. Go to Portmarnock maybe, and might take a trip up to Baltray, some good memories there. Some links golf and I'll sort of -- links golf and a bit of relaxing, as well, because it was pretty hectic this week, and the next two days are going to be a long couple of days, as well.
