KPMG WOMEN'S PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

June 25, 2022

Jennifer Chang

Bethesda, Maryland, USA

Congressional Country Club (Blue Course)

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Here with Jennifer Chang, under 37 on moving day. Not as low as you would have wanted to go, but you ground out a 73. That's pretty good out here.

JENNIFER CHANG: I was expecting for moving day scores to be low, but it did play tough out there with the pin locations.

Any angle you were at, it was hard to read some of them, to be honest. There were a couple that me and my caddie, Will, we were kind of just, like, it could go this way or the other.

Just a couple of putts that I wish would have dropped that didn't, but I'm still pleased with the 1-over.

Q. Tell me more about the pin positions. We've seen them in the low corners, tuck back, tuck right, tuck left. How tough is that especially out here to really control those golf shots?

JENNIFER CHANG: You have to first put yourself in a good position on the fairway, and if you don't, it's hard to attack those pins and make birdies. So for me it was just like I was driving it well. Just wasn't -- I was hitting actually great on a couple of them. Just couldn't convert the putts today.

Q. Being in the penultimate group, what was that experience like? You are playing with a major champion in Sei Young and somebody that's won this tournament before. Walk me through that experience.

JENNIFER CHANG: Just to be in this position in the first place it's a huge learning curve for me. I was actually kind of nervous leading up to it, but I think there's more excitement. I'm very excited, looking forward to tomorrow, yeah.

Q. Did it help any? I feel like you and Caroline were kind of the same vibes. Did it help playing with her? Did it help that today?

JENNIFER CHANG: It was nice to know someone that -- I feel like I'm pretty close with her, so we enjoyed our time out there. Just to see someone that I'm more familiar with, it does calm the nerves down a little bit. Yeah, I had fun today. It was a grind.

Q. Grind it was. It will be another grind tomorrow. What's the mindset? Really going for broke at this point, right? You're playing the best golf you've played all season. What's the mindset heading into tomorrow?

JENNIFER CHANG: I feel like the back of my mind, I really want to go low, but at the end of the day, I have to take one shot at a time.

This is a major. It requires a lot of thinking behind shots, so I'm just going to keep the same game plan, hit fairways, greens, and then make the putts when I can.

Q. In Gee has kind of come back to the field a little bit. You're going to be decently close, but maybe a little too far back. Just maybe even try to get a top ten in a major championship. What would that mean to you?

JENNIFER CHANG: It would mean a lot. Especially right now in the season. It's a huge deal.

I just want to play my game and hope that it works out for me, and if that means getting a top ten maybe inside of that, that would be great. If not, everything will work out the way it does.
