U.S. SENIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

June 24, 2022

Jim Furyk

Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA

Saucon Valley C.C. (Old Course)

Quick Quotes

Q. When you birdied 16, I saw a little leg kick there by, where were you...

JIM FURYK: I was coasting it in. Kind of snuck in the left side.

Q. Did you know where you were at that point?

JIM FURYK: Yeah, all the boards kind of had a projected cut. I didn't know whether I could trust them.

But I saw that looked like 5 was going to get in and nice to have a little breathing room. Hit a good shot at 17 and then didn't hit the putt hard enough.

Just last one was on 18. I think I kind of let my hair down a little bit, was excited, and then just (indiscernible) knocking the putt in.

Q. How long was that?

JIM FURYK: Maybe 18 inches. It was like that, straight downhill, so just kind of touching it. But I pushed it a little bit.

Q. Driver early in the round or is that...

JIM FURYK: What's that?

Q. Was the driver the issue early in the round?

JIM FURYK: No.

Q. What do you do on 3, for example?

JIM FURYK: I hit a 5-wood, way right, and laid up and fatted a wedge and three-putted.

Just kind of a comedy of errors. I did not drive the ball well. That was probably the issue more on the back nine. The front nine really just a lot of stuff went wrong, to be honest with you.

Drove it perfect at 2, which is one of the hardest holes on the course; then hung an iron in that bunker, and best I could do is about 15 feet. Didn't go in.

Double threes, so now you're behind the eight ball.

Drove it perfect at 8. Probably my best drive of the day. Drove it right in the divot and pin is front right. I kind of squeezed it, came out a little -- kind of hooded it, squeezed it, hit it a little too far right. Got a bad lie over there.

So it was kind of just a grind and a fight all day. I think if I got off to a little better start and got a little better rhythm, would've been a better day.

I didn't see -- I think the only putt I made from -- that putt on 16 was probably the longest putt I made all day, and I hit some good ones.

I really struggled with the reads today. I just didn't see them go in. Then it's a fight, so uphill battle all day, kind of pressing.

Q. Was that a five-footer, six-footer, the one on 16?

JIM FURYK: Probably about six.

Q. Looked like it broke a lot.

JIM FURYK: It was breaking about that far, because if you throw it up there on the hill, it'll come back to pin high or underneath where you can have an uphill putt.

I was trying to do that. I miss-hit it a little bit. Kind of hit in there and it skipped by, and that's the one time you're going to get the downhiller. Made one birdie today, that was it, so I'm not going to complain.
