KPMG WOMEN'S PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

June 24, 2022

Jennifer Kupcho

Bethesda, Maryland, USA

Congressional Country Club (Blue Course)

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Here with Jennifer Kupcho. Just finished a 68 here on Friday. Seven birdies on the day. Three bogeys. Looks like overall a pretty solid day for you. How do you feel you played today?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, I feel like I played pretty well. Seemed like as soon as I got to 3-under on the day, I would give one back. It's nice to finish off strong.

THE MODERATOR: Definitely you finished off birdie, birdie with birdies on 8 and 9. Can you tell us what happened there, please?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Yeah, I hit it up close to the green on 8. They made it drivable today. It was a pretty simple up and down from the left side of the green.

Then on 9 I was able to hit it in the correct lay-up spot and give myself a good putt at birdie.

THE MODERATOR: How different was it today being out there under the bright sun and the heat as to when you were out yesterday in about as opposite of this as we could get?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Way different. I think in general the front nine is harder, so to play in the rain and the wind yesterday, it was even more hard. It was a lot nicer today when we turned on that nine.

Q. Jennifer, generally the field is playing much better today. Not just you. Is it weather, setup, or a combination of the two that's made the course a little more receptive?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: I think the combination of the rain that we got as well as obviously the warmer temperatures. I think the setup is very similar, except for No. 8, making that drivable. Everything else was very similar.

The rain really made all of the greens still soft, and we'll see what they do to get them a little bit harder this weekend. I think they will.

Q. We're just halfway through, but you're T-2 at the moment, but you are five shots back. At what point do you change your strategy to try to catch up?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: Honestly, I don't think ever. I think just keep going out and controlling what I can control. I always say that, and I think that's what I do. I mean, if she's going to continue to play well, that's her game, and there's really nothing anyone can do about it.

Q. Jennifer, not sure how much you've kept up with the news today, but Roe v. Wade was overturned. Many female athletes in particular have been speaking out. Just wondering if you had any thoughts or comments on it?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: I actually don't. I haven't seen anything about that, so, yeah, I have no comment.

Q. Just to sort of follow up on that. I don't know if there's a preference or if there's even a mathematical way of looking at it. Is it better to be five strokes back with only one person to catch, or would you rather be one or two back at this point with a lot more people in front of you potentially, or does it not matter?

JENNIFER KUPCHO: I think just in general being back is a lot better, whether it's with a lot of people or not. I think being behind and trying to catch up is better.

I mean, I had the lead at Chevron by a few strokes, so I know how it feels to be in her position. Being behind is at least my preferred way.

THE MODERATOR: Great round today. See you tomorrow.
