TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP

June 24, 2022

Xander Schauffele

Cromwell, Connecticut, USA

TPC River Highlands

Quick Quotes

Q. Xander, you've hit 33 of 36 greens in regulation. Coming into this tournament did you emphasize or do anything sort of thinking like greens in reg is going to be an especially important thing, I want to focus on that, or is this the byproduct of having a couple of really good days with the irons and setting it up that way?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Probably a little bit of both. I think anytime you can hit a lot of greens at any tournament, it definitely makes it a little bit easier on yourself. I feel like Austin and I have just been a little bit more diligent and a little more deliberate with our task when we're over the golf ball and picking numbers and picking sort of the right shot. So I think I'm very focused on that and not much else.

Q. It looked like there was a delay as you were waiting to play the par-5, the 13th. Obviously Rory had a tough time on the hole behind you --

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, people were yelling some weird stuff, so you can never trust too many people out in the crowd this late in the afternoon, yelling funny things. I was just trying to worry about -- 13 is one of the harder holes out here to hit the fairway, and it's not a great one to sit on, but it's just something you've got to deal with in this tournament. I was more focused on trying to hit that fairway than anything else.

Q. You've slept on the lead before. There's obviously 36 holes still to go, a long way on a golf course that yields low scores. What does your mindset start to be when you've got this position?

XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, it's only Friday. We've got 36 more holes, and I need to stay aggressive. This is a course that's giving up some birdies, and if you're leading the pack and you get kind of comfortable, people are going to hunt you down.

It's definitely something Austin and I will talk about and kind of stick to what we've been doing. Obviously it's been working out just fine. Sticking to the process is always a good thing.
