KPMG WOMEN'S PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

June 24, 2022

Sei Young Kim

Bethesda, Maryland, USA

Congressional Country Club (Blue Course)

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Back here again with Sei Young Kim. 4-under 69 today. Really solid round for you. One, two, three, four, five birdies on the card. Today looked like a little bit of a nicer experience than yesterday. How was today's round?

SEI YOUNG KIM: Yeah, today is pretty calm. Better than yesterday. Still the course is a little long, I feel like. Yeah, and we played all the morning, which means an extra 10 yards, 20 yards. A little longer.

Yeah, keep the focus with the long iron shot because the long iron has to get a lie. Even driver shot, yeah.

THE MODERATOR: You had, like I said, five birdies on the day. Two bogeys. Any of those birdies particularly long putts or anything good, or was it just a solid day?

SEI YOUNG KIM: I mean, from the tee second shot I made a good -- I made it good from the second shot, and putting is just okay, but on this course a par-5 is not easy. It's not easy -- advantage of the two, yeah, second. I reached the green. Yeah, I had a two bogey from the par-5, so I don't know.

THE MODERATOR: Hard holes today.

SEI YOUNG KIM: Yeah, just hard holes, yeah.

Q. Early in the week you were one of the few players who didn't mind it being long. Have you changed your opinion now that you've played two rounds?

SEI YOUNG KIM: I'm sorry. What was that?

Q. Early when we spoke, you said I like it long.

SEI YOUNG KIM: Yeah, yeah.

Q. Do you still like the fact that it plays long?

SEI YOUNG KIM: Yeah, because I like the long length because I have a pretty confidence with the long iron and with the hybrid and the 5-wood. But even then I have to extra focus, like shorter course, yeah.

Q. What feels best in your game through two rounds? What's the best part?

SEI YOUNG KIM: Depends on conditions are different. Sometimes my putting is really good, but sometimes my iron is really accurate, yeah.

Q. What was kind of your strategy going into today after In Gee posted such a low number? Did you feel you had to be more aggressive and try to get more birdies?

SEI YOUNG KIM: I just stay patient because this course is still -- even if I tried to be aggressive, it can be -- take the risk, so I'm just patient. I just played my plan, yeah.

Q. Sei Young, how would you compare your game right now to when you won this championship?

SEI YOUNG KIM: I try the same, but it's already been years ago, three years ago. So, yeah, at the time I win the tournament, I feel really good. I played my strategy, so I hope this week is the same as a -- when I won years ago.

Q. It must be pretty rare for you to make two bogeys on par-5s. Do you find the collection of these par-5s as tough as you've seen?

SEI YOUNG KIM: From par-5 it's tough to hit it really from the ground, but sometimes you need a 3-wood from the tee shot. Why I have bogey from today because I hit the driver, and I tried more aggressive, but that makes a mistake, so, yeah, tomorrow maybe more stay focused on the fairway.

THE MODERATOR: Thanks so much, Sei Young. See you tomorrow.
