KPMG WOMEN'S PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

June 24, 2022

Xiyu Lin

Bethesda, Maryland, USA

Congressional Country Club (Blue Course)

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Here with Xiyu Lin, who just shot a bogey-free 4-under 68 today. That was a solid round. Tell me how you feel you played today, four birdies on the card.

XIYU LIN: I'm very happy that I didn't make any bogeys today. I feel like this course, it's very different from the practice round or the pro-am days, and yesterday it took me a while to get used to it. Today I think in the morning we had really, really good weather, and then the course started to firm up a little bit as well.

I just played really well. I mean, it's always nice to have a bogey-free round in a major.

THE MODERATOR: You tied for ninth at this event last year, and I'm looking at your stats for this whole year. You haven't missed a cut. You finished the top 35 every single event. You're playing really strong. What have you been working on your game that's really brought it into shape?

XIYU LIN: I would think the whole year last year was a really huge confidence boost for me. Just to qualify the Olympics, play well in the Olympics, and came back to the TOUR when there's, like, five tournaments left. Then had really solid finish off the year.

I think that just gave me lots of confidence, and this winter I didn't get to go back home, so I had a lot of time to work on both my short game and my mental, and I think, yeah, it's been working really well.

THE MODERATOR: Definitely has. Also have the runner-up finish in Thailand this year, and just a really solid year for you. We'll open it up for questions.

Q. You said it's different than when you were playing the practice rounds and the pro-am. What specifically was different?

XIYU LIN: I mean, obviously a lot softer. Because I have to deal with my French Visa on Monday, so I only got to play a pro-am. I tried to learn the course as much as possible that day, but I feel like this course you just -- probably it's better you don't know it that well. You don't scare yourself that much. (Laughing).

I feel like I just have my eyes on the target, and when I need to, I go for middle of the green, but there is still solid chances here. Especially I would say, yeah, the fairway and the green softer to make the course play longer, but we still have some holes that have short iron in. When the greens are softer, you can more go for it.

Q. Did you have to pull any head covers off for approaches into par-4s?

XIYU LIN: Yesterday I had. Not today.

Q. I think you only missed one fairway and only missed three greens. Was there any good saves that kept you bogey-free?

XIYU LIN: Yeah. Well, as soon as I thought about, I've been hitting every green, I missed three greens in a row. So I guess tomorrow I shouldn't really think about it.

I mean, today I just feel like it's a little better condition as yesterday. Yesterday was super soft, and the driver is, like, not rolling at all. I had a couple of mud balls, so make it a little harder.

Today driver goes a little bit further, and my mind is a little bit more clear, so everything works well.

Q. How much more aggressive did you feel you had to be or could be today after In Gee posted such a low number yesterday?

XIYU LIN: Oh, I just respect that score. I still couldn't figure out how can she do that.

I think to me she -- obviously, she posted a really low score, but to me the strategy playing majors is always the same, which just try to get par. Even you don't birdie any par-5, it's fine. Just keep telling yourself par is a good score.

Then you will have a couple that roll in or from a longer distance that goes in. I think that's what I've been doing. Her score is phenomenal, but I don't know how to copy that. (Laughing).

THE MODERATOR: Thank you very much.
