KPMG WOMEN'S PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

June 24, 2022

Caroline Inglis

Bethesda, Maryland, USA

Congressional Country Club (Blue Course)

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: We're here with Caroline Inglis, who just shot a 4-under 68 in the second round of the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. Very different playing conditions today from yesterday. Looked like you had a really solid round out there. How proud are you of how you played today?

CAROLINE INGLIS: I'm really proud. It's been a rough season so far. I feel like I've played good, but just haven't had any results. I was told also, just reminded that this was the first cut I've made at a KPMG Women's PGA, so that feels good.

Yeah, I'm really proud. I played really smart golf, and that was kind of my game plan was picking really smart targets and just lag putting really well basically because you know you're going to have a bunch of long putts on this golf course.

THE MODERATOR: How was the course different, or was it different from yesterday to today?

CAROLINE INGLIS: I played in the afternoon yesterday, so I didn't get a lot of the rain like a lot of girls did, but it's still super soggy in some areas, wet. The ball is not rolling out.

You plan for maybe five, ten yards of roll with your driver in the fairway and same with your greens. They're really receptive. It's just playing long. It was different, but not super different from yesterday I would say.

Q. What has clicked for you this week that you feel is working better than previous weeks?

CAROLINE INGLIS: I had my coaches come out this week, and it was nice to just get some short game work, technique work. Basically, just working my whole game Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and kind of get a game plan for the course.

I knew it was going to be hard and long, and I think I'm just hitting it better. I switched putters three weeks ago, and that's been all the difference. I just feel a lot more confident with my putting, and my lag putting has been really good.

Q. Who are your coaches, and what putter did you switch to?

CAROLINE INGLIS: I work with -- so I kind of work with three coaches. They all work together, though. The people who came out were Travis Weza and Jarut Padung, and I work with Andy Patnou.

I switched from a Scotty Cameron I've had forever to a Toulon, the Le Mans Toulon. Yeah.

Q. I understand you are happy about making the cut, but I will say T-2 is a little better than making the cut.

CAROLINE INGLIS: Yeah, for sure.

Q. There's a change of mindset now. Now it's not making the cut. It's about winning this thing, no?

CAROLINE INGLIS: Yeah, it is about winning. It's the same mindset. It's not paying attention to literally anything around me. I don't look at scores. My husband is, like, get off your phone, stop looking that the stuff. That's just not going to help me.

Yes, it is about competing and winning, but the way I'm approaching it, it's not going to change. It's still, like, picking smart targets and hitting good golf shots.

Q. Saturday I talked to you about your brother before the PGA Championship. Then we're going to talk your brother any time today for sure. What do you think he thinks about your game?

CAROLINE INGLIS: Well, you know what's funny, he texted me -- I texted him maybe a couple of days ago, and I was, like, any advice for playing in a PGA? He goes, yeah, just don't do what I did this year. (Laughing).

Then he texted me yesterday, good round. He didn't have any -- he just said, just keep it up, good round, keep playing.

It's really cool, I think, that we both played in PGA Champs, and he is a really good golfer in his own right. I was really happy I got to go out and watch him at Southern Hills, which was pretty special.

Q. Do you think he'll recognize that you beat him badly?

CAROLINE INGLIS: Oh, I think he will recognize it. He is always saying I don't ever beat him, like at home. Okay, well.

Q. There's a little bit of rivalry, a good one, healthy rivalry between the two of you or no?

CAROLINE INGLIS: Rivalry, oh, yeah, yeah. Sorry. It's like a healthy rivalry. It's funny. My husband is a good golfer as well, so whenever we get together, like Christmas or family gatherings, we always go out and all three of us are trying to beat each other, so it's really fun to have the family rivalry.

THE MODERATOR: Your husband qualified for the Mid-Am, right?

CAROLINE INGLIS: Last year he did. He is playing some good golf right now. I'm proud of him.

THE MODERATOR: Where does he teach, and what's the age difference?

CAROLINE INGLIS: My brother?

THE MODERATOR: Yeah.

CAROLINE INGLIS: He teaches at Shadow Hills Country Club, which is in Junction City, Oregon. It's, like, 15 minutes from Eugene where most of my family lives. Then the age difference he is five years older than me.

THE MODERATOR: Where is home for you now with your husband?

CAROLINE INGLIS: My husband and I are both from Eugene, but we live in Vancouver, Washington, which is basically Portland. We're members at Columbia Edgewater, but we just live in Washington because there's no income tax.

THE MODERATOR: Oh, smart. Is he in the golf industry too?

CAROLINE INGLIS: My husband? No, he just plays. He is a lumber broker. Yeah, but he just plays all the Am stuff.

THE MODERATOR: Did you say your brother is five years older?

CAROLINE INGLIS: Five years older. How much did his influence kind of push you to get to where you are today?

CAROLINE INGLIS: I actually didn't start golf until I was, like, 13. I grew up watching him play golf, baseball, all those sports, and I was like the annoying little sister tagging along to everything.

So I grew up watching him. I realized he was a good golfer, but until I started playing, I don't think I recognized like how good he was.

It's nice to have someone in the family that can help me out if I need, give swing advice, or just talk to about golf is nice.

THE MODERATOR: What got you to start golf then at 13?

CAROLINE INGLIS: My dad. Yeah. My dad and my brother. I mean, they played all the time, and I think my family finally signed me up for a Junior Golf clinic in the summer. And I realize, oh, I'm pretty good at this, maybe I should try it. Then I just got addicted to it.

THE MODERATOR: One last question from me. What are your thoughts on Congressional? I mean, we haven't seen it in a while out here, and then with the redesign and the women the first ones up on it, what are your thoughts on this golf course?

CAROLINE INGLIS: I love it. It's probably my favorite course we've played for the KPMG. It's so beautiful and scenic. Just you stand on 10 tee, and it's so vast and big.

It's tough. There's a lot of undulation. Not many even lies. The greens are really tricky. I think it's a great course. I think it's so cool that we get to play here.

THE MODERATOR: Great round today. See you tomorrow.
