U.S. SENIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

June 23, 2022

Rob Labritz

Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA

Saucon Valley C.C. (Old Course)

Quick Quotes

THE MODERATOR: Rob Labritz, 2-under 69 today. Rob, can you talk us through your round.

ROB LABRITZ: Sure, yeah. First of all, it's great to be in this room talking to you about the round because it means you played pretty good, I guess.

Yeah, I played solid today. I hit a bunch of fairways, made some putts, started on the back nine. It was raining a little bit. So once the rain got out of there, it was nice. Definitely had a better draw in the afternoon.

Made a few bogeys out there, but ultimately played solid.

Q. How tough were the conditions early in the round?

ROB LABRITZ: For us, it wasn't crazy because it was kind of, sort of at the tail end of that. Any time it's raining, it gets a little more tricky. It was still a lot of fun.

Q. How about that eagle on 15?

ROB LABRITZ: That was cool. Yesterday we were playing a practice round, and I was waiting on the green, and I watched Ernie Els do the same thing.

So I was channeling my inner Ernie Els on that shot. It was a nice little 95-yarder, which I've done before, to knock in the hole that way. Yeah, it was a nice two. Nice to go in that hole.

Q. The weather is definitely going to shift the next few days, get a lot nicer. How do you think the course is going to play with that change?

ROB LABRITZ: It's going to be great. The course is in awesome shape. Even though we got all the rain, there was no mud balls. We had a few wet balls out there, but fairways are tight, greens are awesome, they'll firm up a bit.

We won't have to go long sleeves anymore. We can go short sleeves and have some fun. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Q. What about the U.S. Senior Open, what does it demand of your game?

ROB LABRITZ: You've got to hit it in the fairway, and you don't hit it in the fairway, you've got to make sure you've got a good lie in the rough. We can't touch the ball, so it's up to the gods up there.

Yeah, just not do anything stupid. If you can stay away from big numbers and get your birdie chances to fall. There's a few out there I misses, couple on the par-5s.

Other than that, pretty solid.

Q. Rob, I read a quote that I thought was interesting. I may have said it last year after Q-School earlier this year, I dream about winning senior majors. When did that start, how did that start, and does that still happen?

ROB LABRITZ: Yes. It started when I left the Canadian Tour in 2004. I was a club pro for 31 years. Then when I won Q-School, for me, it was always just trying to keep my body in shape so I can compete out here after I turn 50.

After I won Q-School, I've done nine tournaments so far. I feel really good. To get a good start like this today, I feel comfortable on the golf course. You do this every day, I've got a chance to win a senior major.
