WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 23, 2022

Jessica Baker

Hunstanton, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. Welcome to the quarterfinals, a place you have been before, how satisfying is it to be back here again?

JESSICA BAKER: Very, I think especially with the field this year, it's a great course, and we've been playing really well, so very exciting to be here.

Q. You mentioned the field, with the restrictions gone, so much international flavour, it must be satisfying to perform against them?

JESSICA BAKER: Definitely, yeah, I think especially as everyone is over in college in America, I got to see some people from home. It's nice to be able to have that better field.

Q. I've seen a lot of logos here this week. What university do you go to?

JESSICA BAKER: I'm at UCF in Orlando, Florida. It's just me, I'm solo this week but I'm there. It's good. It's all good.

Q. Well, you're not solo; you have your mum and your dog here. How important is that support network this week?

JESSICA BAKER: It's huge. It's always lovely to be home and have them supporting me and just to have that home vibe as well is always great. It's lovely.

Q. There should be hopefully some good crowds tomorrow and the live broadcast is going to be great. How excited are you for some home support?

JESSICA BAKER: Very excited. It's always nice to be playing well on British ground. I'm really looking forward to.

Q. What would it mean if you are able to progress tomorrow through both rounds and be standing here on the eve of a great final?

JESSICA BAKER: That would be lovely. It's never really something I've sort of thought about but no, that would definitely be icing on the cake.

Q. It must make it a lot easier when you have not comfortable victories but not too stressful day today?

JESSICA BAKER: It was good. Played some really good golf out there. Feeling really confident about my game and just sort of see what happens tomorrow.

Q. What's your strengths been this week? How do you manage your way around this course?

JESSICA BAKER: Definitely driving and putting for me. I love to hit it a long way, so yeah, and those greens are big, and especially with the wind, it's good to have those putts really tight. It's good.

Q. Do you think distance can help you against some other competitors who might not be able to join you on that?

JESSICA BAKER: I think so. It's definitely a strength I've had in the past. Yeah, it's always just about building your armory, so we'll see.

Q. How cool is it to be competing in this championship at the top level and going deep?

JESSICA BAKER: Yeah, it's good. It's sort what have we practise for. I've spent a lot of hours at golf and just to sort of be here and be in the moment and experience that, that is huge.

Q. You have family here will you who would be watching on the live stream?

JESSICA BAKER: I hope most of the people that know me, I'll get them all to tune in and get some viewers on some. I'm sure everyone will be watching.

Q. Where did you grow up and learn the game of golf?

JESSICA BAKER: Newcastle. I'm from the northeast. I'll fly the Toon flag. So, yeah, it's always been close to my heart up there.
