WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 22, 2022

Ffion Tynan

Hunstanton, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. Talk about the performance?

FFION TYNAN: We both played pretty solid. It wasn't one of those matches that ever got one way quickly, but it is winning holes. It was great standard of golf to be playing in such a big event.

And the course in great condition, so that allows that to happen sometimes. A lot of putts needed to be dropping, and staying patient for the first, maybe, six, seven holes before I could get something to drop. But once they started dropping, gives you a boost of confidence, which is nice.

Q. Were there any key moments in the match where you felt the momentum was with you?

FFION TYNAN: Yeah, probably on 9, I made a good par save from the back edge of the green. So from there, I just kind of built a little bit of momentum. Pressure was never off because she was a very good player and holed a lot of key putts back there, too. Definitely close match.

Q. You're the remaining Welsh player in the field. Does that give you extra motivation?

FFION TYNAN: Yeah, the girls are very supportive. I love them all. Had a couple texts from them last night wishing me well. I love the support we get from Wales Golf, and glad to have as many players as we have in the field this year for such a small country.

Q. In terms of the match-play stages, do you take a different approach from stroke play?

FFION TYNAN: 100 per cent. People might not know but I love match play. I love being a little aggressive, knowing that one hole doesn't mean as much. It's kind of like, hey, I can get it back on the next, and play better, especially on this golf course. There's a lot of holes that you can now, kind of, hey, I'll hit driver and maybe give me a closer chance to the hole, kind of thing, so very interesting.

Q. And tomorrow?

FFION TYNAN: Depends on the wind. I think the wind is going to be very similar tomorrow. Just keep plugging along and hole a few more putts and keep the ball in play, is the plan.
