WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 22, 2022

Amelia Williamson

Hunstanton, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. Nice win, all-English game. You must be pleased to progress?

AMELIA WILLIAMSON: Yeah, I am. Very pleased. Rosey I knew was always going to be a tight match. Both headed to the European Team Championship together in a couple weeks together, so haven't been in a score with her for a couple years, and I knew that it was going to be a really tough match.

Q. What was the key to that victory, obviously a narrow one?

AMELIA WILLIAMSON: I would say just staying patient. Neither of us made many major mistakes. It was just trying to keep getting those pars and eliminate the bogeys where possible.

Q. And moving into the last 32, are you starting to dream now?

AMELIA WILLIAMSON: I just take each step as it comes. Tomorrow is my birthday, so I'm happy that I get to play golf on my birthday. So that's what I was kind of motivated by today, I just really wanted to be here tomorrow for my birthday.

Q. Last 32 and hopefully into the last 16. Birthday cake celebrations in the morning first?

AMELIA WILLIAMSON: How about three times a day? Breakfast, lunch and dinner, I reckon, seems likely. Hopefully my family and grandparents can come over again.

Q. And decent crowd following that match, as well. You have a bit of home support out here?

AMELIA WILLIAMSON: Yes, I do. The first day of stroke play and today, I had a few. I've been a member at quite a few clubs growing up in my childhood. So a lot of the members at the clubs that I've been a member at have come to support me from many, many years ago, which is really nice.

Q. We talked about the knowledge that you have of the course. Do you feel that's becoming more of an advantage as you go deeper in the competition?

AMELIA WILLIAMSON: I think it's perhaps a small advantage. It's probably not as big as one would expect. It just comes out on the odd shot which can make the par easy, or prevent the slip-up of a bogey. This week, I think the matches are going to be really tight and just one hole could be the difference like it was today.

Q. Happy birthday for tomorrow?

AMELIA WILLIAMSON: Thank you.
