THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 14, 2022

Jack Buchanan

Lancashire, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. Looks like you might have just done enough. Was that a nerve-wracking finish?

JACK BUCHANAN: Yes, struggled with the putter halfway through my round. I knew if I put the ball in play the last two holes there would be a good chance of making two birdies.

17, I holed a 10-footer for birdie and played the last perfectly to like 20 feet and 2-putted. Hopefully it's enough to get in so we'll see.

Q. Did you feel roundabout 14 or 15, and already knew plus-one was the mark to get to?

JACK BUCHANAN: I knew plus-one, I knew I couldn't be anymore than that.

Q. Feel a bit of pressure on those last few holes?

JACK BUCHANAN: Yeah, I definitely put myself under pressure. I was 3-under early. So I was looking good but then yeah, put myself under more pressure than I needed to be but I was lucky to do well under pressure the last couple of holes.

Q. These conditions must have helped.

JACK BUCHANAN: Yeah, first day probably wasn't but today I played my tee shot for the first, time, so it was quite nice.

Q. And this your first time here or previous trips to the amateur?

JACK BUCHANAN: First time to The Amateur, yeah. It's a good one.

Q. Other golf you've played in GB&I, anything of note?

JACK BUCHANAN: Not really. I played the last two events, St Andrews Links and Scottish Men's. I played a couple of links courses leading up to this which has helped getting used to some of the conditions.

Q. Is this a competition you've had your eye on, coming out of COVID?

JACK BUCHANAN: Yeah, if you're going to play in a tournament like this, get a spot in the Masters, The Open, I don't know why you wouldn't want to play.

Q. And what's it been like playing links courses? Have you felt quite at home in that type of condition?

JACK BUCHANAN: I would say not, really. We've got the Sandbelt but it's just so different. Just the way you have to flight your ball playing in much more wind and the bunkers the last two events have been real tricky. So just getting used to all that but kind of getting the hang of it the last two events so not too bad.
