KITCHENAID SENIOR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

May 28, 2022

Brian Gay

Benton Harbor, Michigan, USA

Press Conference

Harbor Shores

JOHN DEVER: Brian Gay just put up a third round 2-under, 8-under for the championship, really clean scorecard, just a single bogey, an eagle early. A lot of pars coming down the stretch. And you're in position. That's got to make you feel pretty darned good.

BRIAN GAY: Yeah, still hanging around. Not too far back. Putter was cold again today. I had a nice hole out of the bunker on the short par 4 there for eagle which is a good start. Birdied none of the par 5s which is killing me. Three-putter for par on 15. Had a nice look on 18 and left it short. The greens were a little bit -- only put I left short. I hit most of them hard. They were faster today. Hit a lot of good lines and speed was a little off.

Q. When you drove in today, saw the weather and everything else, you probably were salivating a little bit like everybody else was?

BRIAN GAY: Yeah, it was nice to see the sun shine this morning and see it warm up a little bit. It was a much nicer day out.

Q. How did the course play, and were you surprised after all the weather we had yesterday?

BRIAN GAY: The greens I thought were a little faster and the fairways were wet. A lot of balls were plugging with no roll. The fairways are soft. Greens were running out a little bit.

Q. Putting has been a strength of yours for a long time. When they are not going, is it something you can turnaround in a hurry and have a lot of confidence in that part of your game?

BRIAN GAY: Yeah, I usually do turn it around. I was putting good for a while. Last couple tournaments not as well. I think the main thing is speed. Got to just dial the speed in. I'm reading pretty good. Seem to be hitting my lines. Just maybe go work on a bit of speed on the green.

Q. And with the looks, is there a low one out there tomorrow?

BRIAN GAY: I think so. Although I did see I think it's supposed to blow, be windy tomorrow, out of the south. It will be tougher tomorrow for sure if the wind is blowing. But you know, the par 5s I can get to and there's some out there. Just play smart on some of the tough shots and take advantage of the easy holes.

You never know with the wind blowing. Hopefully coming from behind, if it's windy, go out, shoot 5- , 6-under and see what everybody else does.
