BANK OF HOPE LPGA MATCH-PLAY

May 26, 2022

Jenny Shin

Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Shadow Creek

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Jenny Shin after her 5&3 victory over Hannah Green at the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play presented by MGM Rewards. Jenny, you had just a really good round. You took the lead on the fourth hole and never relinquished it. What was going really well for you today?

JENNY SHIN: It was really windy today so I think the main focus was to get up and down as much as possible when I don't get it on the green. The greens are extremely firm, so starting yesterday I didn't have too many birdies inside 20 feet, and today I -- any time I had a chance inside 20 feet I tried my best, and I think on the fourth hole or the third hole, the Par-5, I made my birdie.

And then after that the wind really picked up; got up and down.

Hannah was struggling a little bit in the middle of the front nine, and that helped me get up pretty quickly.

Q. A lot of players have said that the match play format helps them to just be more aggressive out here. Do you find that that is how you play during match play? With the wind especially are you more aggressive?

JENNY SHIN: No. I don't think this golf course is something you can be aggressive with. I think for instance there are a lot of times where players do hit their putts a little bit more aggressively. Besides that, I don't think the game plan changes regardless of the format.

Q. Speaking of the game plan, now that you're up by two points leading your group, does that change your game plan at all for tomorrow?

JENNY SHIN: No. I'm going to still try to make my putts, hit the fairway if I can. The course is drying up real quickly, so I'm not quite sure how far my driver is going to go tomorrow. It's been going like 320 yards, so I think it's trying to stay a little bit more conservative and not be too greedy and, yeah, sink those par putts.

Q. I was wondering if you could talk about your relationship with Las Vegas. I know you live here. How you ended up here and what you like about it.

JENNY SHIN: This is my fifth year living in Vegas. I quite like it. I grew up in Los Angeles with tons of traffic and I don't think I can go back anymore. I love the lifestyle that I have here now, everything within a five-mile radius. The traffic is building a little bit on the strip, but I tend to stay away from that, so I live in a different part of Vegas than other people. (Smiling.)

Q. You and Tiffany are kind of carrying the Vegas banner this week. You're both 2-0 now and she told me yesterday that she actually lived with you for a while.

JENNY SHIN: Yeah, she was my roommate for two years.

Q. She talked about the community you have at Southern Highlands with the men and women players. Can you tell me what that does to help your game?

JENNY SHIN: I do my own stuff. I'm pretty friendly with Kurt Kitayama. Doug Ghim is a really nice guy, so I practice with him occasionally but I don't go out of my way planning things with him because our schedules are so different.

Yeah, I hang solo. (Laughter.)

Q. How about your relationship with Shadow Creek? Do you get to play is some since you live here?

JENNY SHIN: No, I am not affiliated with MGM. Yet. Yet. (Laughter.)

I wish. I mean, the practice facilities here are pretty phenomenal and I don't think you would see this anywhere south -- sorry, west of Las Vegas. I've been to pretty great golf courses in California, but this place really puts on a very good facility.

So I mean, I wish I could come out, but I do not spend hundreds and thousands of dollars at the casino so they don't invite me here.

Q. Speaking of MGM and Bank of Hope, they work really hard on making this tournament like really fun and great for players. How have you found the hospitality and the tournament in general?

JENNY SHIN: It's definitely one of my favorites. They do such an amazing job making us feel good. Like every morning they have a gift for us. The golf course conditions are, you know, just flawless. It's so lush and green considering it's Las Vegas.

So I'm very happy to be here and I really hope Bank of Hope and MGM could continue staying in Shadow Creek for a long time.

Q. So what is the strategy tomorrow? I know you said your putting, but I want to know, are you thinking about the weekend at all or just the match tomorrow?

JENNY SHIN: Yeah, one day at a time. I would love to get to the weekend because last year I got to the 16th and I lost to Eun-Hee Ji, so it would be a really good feeling to get -- make it to the weekend and try playing 36 holes in this 105 degree heat.

Q. Speaking of the heat, how have you been managing that? I know you played a couple long rounds. How are you holding up and managing that?

JENNY SHIN: 5&3 helps. Not going to lie.

Q. Yeah.

JENNY SHIN: I feel like yesterday was a little bit hotter even though the temperature wasn't quite 105.

It was really windy today. I'm very used to wind here in Vegas. It blows every other day. So I am kind of -- it was nice. The breeze was a little bit cooler than just sitting there and feeling that 105.
