May 26, 2022

Nanna Koerstz Madsen

Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Shadow Creek

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Nanna Koerstz Madsen. Tell me, which are you most happy about after your second round? Are you more happy about winning the match or getting off the course early?

NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Probably getting off the course early. I been struggling with a little cold this week, so it's not nice having to play too many holes.

But I'm happy winning the match too, yeah.

Q. Yeah, and especially after coming up short yesterday; you didn't win your match. So did that put more pressure on you off the jump?

NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: I mean, in this format you kind of almost have to win every three matches to advance to the next round, so now I'm just trying it win as many as I can.

I know if Paula -- I don't really know the format too much, but I think if she wins today I don't even have a chance to advance.

I'll just try and make as many points as I can.

Q. You don't have a lot of match play experience?

NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Nope. I played the Solheim.

Q. Oh, you played Solheim, okay. And that's team anyway, so that's a little different.

NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Yeah.

Q. What do you think of the format? What's your opinion on it? Do you like it?

NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: I do like it. It's nice that you don't have to look at the forecast before you go out because it's the same for everyone - because you're playing at the same time.

But, I mean, I still do prefer stroke play just because that's -- I feel like I have a better chance there. But I think it's fun once in a while playing match play.

Q. Yeah. A lot of players have said it's a good mix up and it allows them to play more aggressively. Do you find that to be the case for you?

NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: I'm actually trying to stick to whatever game plan when I play stroke play, because I'm very aggressive and I tend to go too much after the flags, which I've done previously when I played in match play.

So this week I been trying to be a little bit more defensive, yeah, in the way I play the course.

Q. Did you play Paula yesterday?

NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Yes.

Q. Obviously she's playing really good golf out here. Did you enjoy playing with her yesterday?

NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Yeah, she was nice to play with. We had a good match. None of us played really good but none of us played really bad either. Just around even par.

But she played a good round of golf.

Q. And you played Elizabeth today. How did you find that pairing? Did you find her to be competitive?

NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Yeah, well, I won those five holes in a row or something, so that made it a little easier going into the back nine.

But we still had a good match. She was hitting some good shots and stuff. She was struggling a little bit with her back I think. But we had a good match and we had fun out there.

Q. I was actually just going to ask about that big stretch. You went 6-up at one point and finished 6-up. What was going well for you right there?

NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Well, I made a couple birdies. I had a very lucky bounce on one hole. Hit the sprinkler and ended up a gimme.

Elizabeth made two bogeys and I was 6-up eventually.

Q. Is there anything you find about this course that works for your game? What you do you like about Shadow Creek, if anything?

NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: I mean, I love the course. I'm not sure what really suits me well, but I just like it. It's in amazing shape. Yeah, greens are fast. I like that.

Q. And have you played her before?

NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: No, first time.

Q. So does to live up to your expectations?

NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: For sure. I mean, me and Nicki, my caddie, we been talking about it. It's been one of the best places we played ever on tour.

So we definitely enjoy being here. Definitely going to come back.

Q. Are you playing in the Open next week?

NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Uh-huh.

Q. Tell me, is this tournament helping you prepare for that? What do you think is the benefit of playing her in preparation?

NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: I mean, it's a tough course and you do get firm greens and tight fairways, some tricky rough some places, so it's definitely preparing good for next week I would say, yeah.
