CHARLES SCHWAB CHALLENGE

May 26, 2022

Rickie Fowler

Fort Worth, Texas, USA

Colonial CC

Quick Quotes

Q. How would you characterize your round today?

RICKIE FOWLER: Yeah, there was a lot of stuff out there. It was tricky out there today. I felt like I did a good job of kind of scoring and keeping things going, at least holding stable and not going the wrong way.

Like I said, it was tricky. First handful of holes there wasn't much wind. It started to kind of pick up, a little gusty at times, and then the rough, you get a lot of jumpers and it's hard to control the ball from there. I felt like we did a pretty good job overall. Just a tricky day at Colonial.

Q. With the rain that came a couple days ago, how firm was the golf course this morning? How did you find the golf course? Did it firm up a little bit with the wind that came yesterday?

RICKIE FOWLER: No, it's still soft. The greens are starting to dry out a little bit, and I'm assuming, pretty sure we don't have any rain in the forecast as of now. I think it can be -- it has a chance to be really good this weekend.

Definitely it's still soft and receptive out there. Not so much if you're playing from the rough. Yeah, it could get a little fiery this weekend, which will be good.

Q. When it's a little tricky at Colonial, what's in your opinion the toughest part about playing Colonial when it's a little firmer and faster and when it gets a little tricky like the wind was today?

RICKIE FOWLER: If you're driving it well it's a lot easier. You start getting in the rough, the greens aren't very big to begin with and you can get in some tough situations around those greens when you're playing from the rough, not able to control the ball, and not really sure how far it's going to come out, and if it knuckles the wrong direction, starts going with the wind, no telling when it's going to stop.

Yeah, a little out of position off the tee, it's playing a lot of defense, just trying to hopefully salvage par but not bring any big numbers in.

Q. What did you take away from your play last week at Southern Hills?

RICKIE FOWLER: Last week, first day, scrambled really well and just got some good scoring out of not a great ball-striking day, and then Friday, Saturday I hit it really well. Unfortunately just didn't really make much. There was a lot of good things from last week. It was nice seeing -- good driving the ball, ball-striking, good short game in there. Really just needed to get some putts to go, and it could have been a lot different week.
