KITCHENAID SENIOR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

May 26, 2022

Rob Labritz

Benton Harbor, Michigan, USA

Press Conference

Harbor Shores

JOHN DEVER: Welcome to the 2022 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores. Tell us about your day.

ROB LABRITZ: I played pretty solid all day. One sort of errant tee shot on 18 and wasn't even really that bad. You don't want to hit left on 18. I just figured that out today.

So that was really the only mistake. Played good in the middle. The greens are pretty undulating out here so you have to hit your spots. Overall happy. Obviously got that pit feeling in your stomach at the finish but we have three more rounds and we're going to go deep in the next couple rounds.

JOHN DEVER: Talk about your back-to-back birdies on 7 and 8 and how that sprung you forward.

ROB LABRITZ: I hit the ball pretty good even coming in. I missed a couple 6-footers for par. Then just made some nice -- 7 and 8 I birdied, had a nice 3-footer on 7 which was easy and 8, rolled that in. Played solid. Birdied the par 5 coming in. It was solid. Not disappointed by any means. We're going to go out there and work on it a little harder and see what we could do.

Q. What's your comfort level like now when you come to this?

ROB LABRITZ: So much different. I think I played seven events now on the Champions Tour. I come out here and I expect to win. I'm going to get there. It's just a matter of time. There's a few mistakes that I still have to erase off my soul as a club pro, the guys who have been out here for 30-some years, those mistakes -- so for me if I get those mistakes down to a minimum, we'll start shooting some better numbers.

Q. What's good in your game right now?

ROB LABRITZ: I'd like to make a few more putts. I'm always working on my short game. My distance is really good. Trying to hit the ball really solid. I can hit it far, so I can take advantage of some of these par 5s out here.

Today I hit a few good shots on some par 5s that didn't quite get up-and-down but you know, tomorrow is another day. So we'll go out there and tackle those par 5s tomorrow. I think we'll be in better shape.

JOHN DEVER: What's it like to come here, you wear two hats, how nice is it to be here with two hats on and see some of your old cohorts and such and see both sides?

ROB LABRITZ: That's the great part because I still represent the 30,000 PGA members. I'll always represent them. I'm a PGA Member at heart and it's great to know some of the guys on the Champions Tour now.

I got to know a bunch of them, getting more comfortable out there. Played a lot of rounds with them. It's good to be -- to know everybody now and not feel super uncomfortable I feel very comfortable out here.

Q. Cool reception on the practice tee this week?

ROB LABRITZ: Yeah, totally. It's great to know the 35 club pros and also know all the TOUR players because we've been playing together the last seven, eight weeks whatever it is and it's nice to have my girls out here this week. My boy, he just finished LSU and he has a few things to do, my wife and two daughters are here. My love tank is nice and full which is cool.
