ROLAND GARROS

May 22, 2022

Quentin Halys

Paris, France

Press Conference

J. ISNER/Q. Halys

7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6

THE MODERATOR: So after the match do you have the feeling that you've played a very big match, of course you're disappointed not to be with Barrere in the next round, what can you tell us off the cuff?

QUENTIN HALYS: Well I think it was a good match, I don't have many regrets. He played very well, he better managed the match than I did, especially for the tiebreaks. Of course I'm disappointed because I think I played a good match, but he played very well too.

So I had more opportunities, but I didn't manage the tiebreak as well and that's what made the difference at the end.

Q. On the decisive games was it frustrating not to manage to make the difference? What is your state of mind, because you really hung in there to the end so what were you thinking at that point?

QUENTIN HALYS: Well, I was thinking about making as few mistakes as possible, but he did 92 percent of first serves on the three tiebreaks, so when I lost my service it was very difficult to come take one from him.

So I think he served better, he played better, I missed a few easy balls, but that's part of the game. So we have to accept that against him you can hit a lot of balls, but the balls you do get you need to manage them well and maybe I didn't manage the balls so well.

Q. Did you expect to be bombarded, you were expecting no doubt to be bombarded with his services. Are you happy with your attitude, because you were really focused during the match?

QUENTIN HALYS: Well, no, because management should be good for each match that you play. So I did expect him to serve very well, but you just have to accept it and every time there's a big opportunity you need to grasp it and seize those opportunities. I had a few opportunities that I didn't manage to grasp, so I think that he just played better.

Q. So the audience was encouraging you, did you, did it help to you go and get those balls, how did you manage it? Because sometimes I think you were doing well, but how did you manage this?

QUENTIN HALYS: No, it's great to have this type of atmosphere again. So I'm a small challenger and often there isn't as much atmosphere, but I was really happy to see the crowds there and it really helped me. When you can use the audience it's helpful, but I didn't necessarily, you know, I couldn't give it back to them with a victory. But I played a good match and I have no regrets.

Q. What's next for you?

QUENTIN HALYS: Well, we're going to, I'm going to play doubles with my partner Jonathan Eysseric and we're going to prepare for this and then we're going to go and play on the grass court.

Q. There's a question about Wimbledon, what do you think about their decision and how will this influence you?

QUENTIN HALYS: Well we haven't really talked about it with my team yet. You just have to accept things. I think that the current situation is very complicated, that's the way it is, you have to put up with it and I don't think there's a lot to say. That's the way it is.

Q. I imagine that you're super frustrated today, you're playing well, you were trying to really achieve things in the match and there's this service against you and sometimes you succeed, but...

QUENTIN HALYS: Yes, frustrated, yes and no, because I did what I had to do, I played well, I didn't rush things.

I made two or three silly mistakes, but that's part of the game. I missed some in each match. So, yes, I think that we both played very well today and it was a question of a few points difference. But it's a match that did slide, you know, to the wrong side, because I did play well, but he played better. He had a super service and I think that there is quite a few positive things to get out of it for myself and this will help me on grass courts.

So I think that, even though I won matches as a Challenger I'm able to play good matches, so that there's a lot of positives to take away from the match.
