Flash Quotes

Q. What went well this week?

JON RAHM: I've actually been thinking about is it as I've been playing obviously a really good round of golf. It wasn't that I played bad or I hit it bad.

Yesterday was just a hard day where nothing really got going. The first five drivers I hit, none of them were mis-hit and because the wind or a little bit of the water on the face, all of them ended up off the fairway, hit a lot of good putts that didn't want to go in. I mean, I got those lipouts on 3 and 4 in a row, and it was hard to get things kick started.

Put in a couple good holes in a row and then something bad would happen again. I just couldn't get that birdie or that couple shots that gets it going and maybe get away with two or 3-over par.

First day is where I go back. I played good. I played and the score is reflected I think. Very bad mistake on 8 with the 5-iron on 13, I should end up with at least a par, not a bogey and put that tee shot on 17 on dry land, which is three not even bad swings but just mistakes where in a major championship it's going to cost you a lot especially the first day.

I was telling Adam as we finished plus six, there's no reason why, like playing-wise it should have been better and I started thinking about just easy things that I could have avoided. I think I ended up at a plus 1-over all. It's really easy to talk about but there were mistakes that could and should be avoided. That could be a respectable week.

Today, you know, it's a bit of a consolation prize to go out and play good but just errors. Game is good. Playing is good. Swing feels good. So I'm not too far off.

Q. Talking about that shot on 17, it gives you a taste of what it could have been and what it could be.

JON RAHM: Well, it's a Hail Mary, right. It's 280 yards to the front and it's helping a little bit and I had to hit a perfect 3-wood and I did. On top of that it needs to be online because you have ten-yards wide gap to land it, right. Truly we are aiming for the bunker. I was aiming at the bunker and the wind took it four more yards and I had it for eagle.

Q. Closest on the weekend by the way.

JON RAHM: Yeah, people have made eagle, so it sucks to miss the putt but I'm glad to walk away from the hole with an easy birdie.
