Flash Quotes

Q. Take us through the week. What went well?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Well, 8-over is not going to win the tournament. You know, it was just tough. I never got in a rhythm. I never figured out just how to make enough birdies out here and when I made some birdies today, I made too many bogeys and made a double. It happens.

It sucks because we're through two majors and felt like prep was going really well, and just didn't perform. It's going to happen but you know, guys are playing this well -- playing this course pretty well. I just couldn't figure it out.

Q. So talking about the prep and talking about the rest of the year as a major winner, do you prepare yourself for the majors --

COLLIN MORIKAWA: No, I'm preparing for every tournament. I want to go out and win. Not having a win this year, I want to get back out there it. I want to get back in the winner's circle. I've seen pieces, and a lot of the prep this year has felt good, which is why it's frustrating. Just have to be patient, go back to what I was doing in the past and start playing well.

Q. What worked well and what didn't?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: That's what you have to go back to. You know, I'm going to have to go back and look at this week and figure out what was wrong. Just not a lot of good. Just a lot of just grind.

Sometimes you have those weeks and this course, I'm not going to say, it was very tough. It wasn't easy just to go around out here and you had to have all aspects of your game. Just never got in a rhythm anywhere and that's kind of stuff.

Q. Tough draw, too. You had the worst of it, I think?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: It is what it is. J.T. was playing well, so it's doable. The first two days, even the second day, felt like I hit it really well and it was a 2-over par round that could have been easily a 2-under par round.

So that's what's frustrating is that I'm not taking advantage of the opportunities. I'm making a couple mistakes and then instead of being a couple under, you're a couple over and then you're hoping to make the cut. That's what it takes out here. It's a shot-by-shot type of thing.

Q. Any thoughts about going to St Andrews defending champion? How much of a big deal is that?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: It's huge. You know, for me. I've never been out there so obviously I'm going to have a lot to take in, especially being the defending champion. Just like how Harding Park was and how last year was at Royal St. George's, we're playing different courses.

So I have to go out there and prep like any other place I would. I have no history there, so I'm going to have to figure out what I have to do to play well and hopefully we'll have a really good week.

Q. Not like you haven't heard of the place.

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Yeah, exactly.
