PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

May 21, 2022

Abraham Ancer

Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA

Southern Hills Country Club

Flash Quotes

JOHN DEVER: Welcome back to the 2022 PGA Championship here at Southern Hills. We are joined by Abraham Ancer, carded an even par 70 today. He is 4-under par for the championship.

ABRAHAM ANCER: Yeah, definitely happy the way I grinded it out today. It's definitely such a good golf course and it's so demanding off the tee and coming into the greens, and the par 3s are playing really, really tough today. I was able to keep the ball in play. Didn't really get into much trouble and when I did, I was able to get up-and-down for the most part.

Really happy the way I rolled the ball. There were a couple putts or shots I thought I made and they didn't fall, but really happy the way the ball is coming off the putter face and the way I'm striking it.

Q. How are you going to prepare for tomorrow's round and where do you feel like you are with respect to contending for the win?

ABRAHAM ANCER: Rest of the day is going to be recovery work. Just got to be as fresh as possible for tomorrow. And just not think about golf, really. Just go and hang out with Mike and ram own and just, I don't know, watch a movie, watch a game, something just to keep my head off of golf and have a good time and then come back here tomorrow and just do the same thing. We've just got to make more putts.

This is a golf course that really anything can happen. I know the record is the guy who has been leading, usually wins the tournament, which is crazy because it feels like anything can happen out here but it is tough to really back in if you are far away.

So I feel like I'm definitely in striking distance. Yeah we just have to play some flawless golf tomorrow?

Q. Are you going to be watching the leaderboards tomorrow?

ABRAHAM ANCER: Maybe. I used to not like it now I feel like, okay, I like to know what I need to do. It just depends. Sometimes I might take a peek. Sometimes I don't. We'll see how it goes.

Q. You really seem to have embraced the golf course. Is that part of your formula for success is to just, what's in front of you, mesh with it and put forth your best game?

ABRAHAM ANCER: Absolutely. I feel like I can't overpower this golf course. Really not many golf courses to be honest. But it's such a well-designed golf course, I just play it the way it's supposed to be played, I feel.

Obviously everybody is different. I just enjoy it. It's a great challenge off the tee coming into these greens, we've got to use the slopes to your advantage. Yeah, I just enjoy that kind of golf where you have to be really, really precise.

Q. You're used to the fluctuating weather in Oklahoma. How is that either helping, hurting you and how are you prepared for it throughout the week?

ABRAHAM ANCER: I feel like in my college career we played in anything, all sorts of weather. I enjoy the wind and I feel like where I grew up and in junior college in Norman it was windy as well. The wind brings great challenge especially on this golf course where you have to be really precise. I feel like for the most part all of us out here we've played enough in some tough conditions, so it's not like it's an advantage for some people.
