NBA WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS: MAVERICKS VS. WARRIORS

May 18, 2022

Jordan Poole

Golden State Warriors

Game 1: Postgame

Warriors 112, Mavericks 87

Q. You seemed very devoted to getting to the rim tonight. What was your mindset coming into this game? Was it to get into the paint and attack the defense?

JORDAN POOLE: Yeah, just tried to be aggressive and put them in the rotations. Good thing about the playoffs is it's a different series now, and now we've got to find the patterns and the rhythm that they had defensively and we were able to execute tonight but I'm sure they are going to switch things up in Game 2 and just have to find ways to adapt.

Q. Andrew picked up Luka full court a bunch tonight. As a guy who handles the ball at times does that get annoying if a defender is trying to pick you up, even if they are not trying to steal the ball?

JORDAN POOLE: I feel like it depends on your handle personally. If you don't really trust your handle, you've got pressure in the backcourt and your responsibility is to set up the offense, may be different. But Wiggs is an amazing defender and him being able to pick up Luka 94 really helps us. Tremendous effort and great game by Wiggs.

Q. Did it feel different than the Memphis series, not putting anything down on Dallas, but the tempo, the feel, did you notice a difference?

JORDAN POOLE: Yeah, they are a completely different team. So, you see different series, and like I said, you've got to find ways to adapt and like I said, I'm sure they will throw something different in the second game, and watch film and we've just got to be ready to have counters for that.

Q. What does it mean for you guys to see Steph lead you in rebounding and doing all the little things sometimes until his shot starts falling, just taking charge in other ways?

JORDAN POOLE: Yeah, it just shows how all-around -- it just shows how all-around of a player he is, especially getting back in there and getting rebounds and being able to push the ball, get us into stuff, he's a tremendous rebounder as he is already. Being able to have him go in there and make plays and get us out on a run helps a lot.

Q. How did it feel for you tonight to have 19 points after the last three games against Memphis, you kind of maybe didn't score as much as you liked?

JORDAN POOLE: Yeah, it felt good to win. They are going to make adjustments. You'll have game where you score 30, score five, whatever it is. We have so many talented players and we are really connected as a team, that as long as we go out there and we win the game, that's all that matters.
