BETFRED BRITISH MASTERS HOSTED BY DANNY WILLETT

May 8, 2022

Justin Walters

Sutton, Coldfield, England

The Belfry

Quick Quotes

Q. 71 today. Tell us the last time a bogey felt that good as it was on 18.

JUSTIN WALTERS: I really felt like my leg was going to give way a little bit. It did on the last. Unfortunate, I just missed it and hit it in the water. And I just thought I fought hard all day, and to give it away on the last.

I was really going through the options. I knew I wasn't far off the lead, and to give up two on the last, especially when I'm trying to set up tomorrow. Because it was a tough blow to take one in the water, and then to get away with a bogey after all of that was just -- in a way, it was momentum. You know, even though it was a bogey, it's a bit of momentum into tomorrow, hopefully.

Q. I'm sure on the back nine on a Saturday you keep half an eye on what the leaderboard is doing. Does it give you any comfort to know nobody is running away just yet?

JUSTIN WALTERS: Yeah, I actually never looked at a leaderboard all the time, because I felt like I was just trying to get through what I was going through. And every now and then I looked up, and it just stares at you. You know? And I didn't see a leaderboard, but I saw my name and that I was still, you know, close. And it was if I can just come in with one or two more, I'll be right there.

And it actually went the other way, unfortunately. So I don't think it really helps me too much to look. But, yeah, I've been struggling to put together four rounds during the tournament. It would have been a day like this where it's solid, but it could have got away from me as well. I made some good up-and-downs and made a couple of par putts. And so to shoot under par still and kind of keep myself in the hunt meant a lot.

Q. Is the course playing much different to yesterday? We're a bit surprised that nobody's really taken a run in it today.

JUSTIN WALTERS: I mean, I played in the morning yesterday. And I think that -- and I thought the greens were really smooth and nice yesterday. And this afternoon I found it quite hard to read the greens, maybe moving around a little bit more.

But I don't know. Maybe we're just not used to such good weather and we're just sitting there enjoying the good weather, forgot to score more birdies. I don't know.

But it was just a lovely day out in the sun in England. Doesn't get much better than this. Yeah, I'm surprised no one's running away, but I'm mostly thankful at the same time.
