MUTUA MADRID OPEN

April 30, 2022

Paula Badosa

Madrid, Spain

Press Conference

S. HALEP/P. Badosa

6-3, 6-1

THE MODERATOR: Questions in Spanish.

Q. First of all, what about your shoulder? How do you feel? Explain us a little bit what has happened out there in the match.

PAULA BADOSA: Well, the shoulder, I'm fine. The match, well, you have seen it. She's played at a really good level, all of her merit, and I haven't played very well.

Q. Tactically speaking, how have you seen it? Because Simona has played very well, crossing the balls, short balls. She's done it really well. What have you missed?

PAULA BADOSA: Well, I missed absolutely everything. That's why I was only able to win four games.

As you said, she played really, really well. Served well. She's been really quick with her foot game. At the important moments, the ball fell her side, and at the end of the day we just have to give her an applause. That's why she's a champion in this sport.

Q. Do you think that given that it has rained and the conditions were heavy has affected the result of the match?

PAULA BADOSA: Well, maybe. Maybe that's not helped me, because there were moments that I was not able to reach some balls. I didn't know how to harm her, and she was feeling really comfortable on the court.

Everything worked out for her this evening. That's all.

Q. There was a moment that you were 3-2 up. Perhaps that sixth game was perhaps the turning point. Was that determining for how everything worked out afterwards? Because afterwards the match was really, really fast. You managed to stop that start of Simona at the beginning, and then in this sixth game there was perhaps a click that changed everything?

PAULA BADOSA: No, everything was going okay. Was an equal game. But then she won and it was 3-All, 4-3, and then she break me, and then she started playing really well and I started to miss a lot of balls.

You know, as soon as you give her a small opportunity, she was able to go up in the score and was able to beat me.

THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.

Q. Tough luck today. Can you just talk a little bit through the match? What did you see from Simona? It's the first time you guys had played. At what point did your shoulder start to bother you a bit?

PAULA BADOSA: My shoulder, it's okay. Yeah, my first time playing against Simona, I think she played very high level. She was getting all the balls. She was aggressive. She was fast.

I don't know what she said, but I think she played perfect.

Q. I'm just wondering, what are your emotions at the moment? Fresh off the court, it must be a bit difficult.

PAULA BADOSA: Yeah, it's not the best moment right now. Quite bad. I don't know. It's tough to lose at home.

It's been a tough week, as well. Very stressful, a lot of things. Tough draw, as well. But it goes how it goes, and I have to accept it.

I think I need days off, because there are some tournaments that they seem like five, and this is the case right now. So, yeah, I think I will have to rest a little bit.
