PALOS VERDES CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY BANK OF AMERICA

April 30, 2022

Lexi Thompson

Palos Verdes Estates, California, USA

Palos Verdes Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Lexi Thompson after a stellar 5-under 66 on what's now a windy day at Palos Verdes Golf Club. How good does it feel to get that 5-under?

LEXI THOMPSON: It feels good. The first two days were a little bit rough with the ball striking, but came together today. Had a good range session yesterday after my round and figured out a few things. Just felt confident coming into today.

I knew I had to make a lot of birdies and I knew they were going to shoot low depending on the wind, so overall taking the positives from today and hoping for the best tomorrow.

Q. Walk me through the front nine. Five birdies, went out in 31.

LEXI THOMPSON: Well, it was a good start. I started with birdie, birdie. Had a few about six-footer for birdie on my first few holes. That's always nice just to get the momentum in the beginning of the round.

I just tried to keep it going and stay in the process of doing my routine on every shot and just committing to my golf shots out there.

Q. It's playing a little short today. 5900 yards on the card. Does that make a difference for you having more wedge shots into the greens?

LEXI THOMPSON: It definitely does. I guess it's moving day so they moved it up. But, yeah, you have to take advantage of the par-5s or the drivable Par-4s out there.

I definitely did on a few of them, so I'm happy with that. But you still have to hit the shots even though it's moved up.

Q. All three rounds under 30 in putting this week. These greens are tricky notoriously from what we've heard all week. What have you found on the greens that's worked so well?

LEXI THOMPSON: A little bit of an effect out here I guess, and then obviously I'm looking at the greens book. But really just trusting my lines with my putts and making sure I am staying in my routine, and that's all I've been focusing on.

I've been putting two to three hours in a day when I'm home on my putting, so I've put in the work.

Q. Heading into tomorrow scores are probably going to go up. That wind is picking up out there. Getting chilly. You're probably going to be in contention heading into Sunday. How good does that feel to be in that position and what are some of your goal?

LEXI THOMPSON: It feels great obviously, but I'm sure that they'll still shoot a few under out there. The wind is picking up but they still -- obviously they're playing it pretty short, so we'll see.

I did what I could control. I put a nice round out there. So take that into tomorrow and just do what I did today and see where that takes me.
