Quick Quotes

Q. Given this format, how much pride do you guys take from being bogey free on day like today?

SAM RYDER: Yeah, it's awesome. That's a good goal to have. Being bogey free in this format is just -- you have a tendency, I think, sometimes to try harder because you're not just kind of feeling like you're letting yourself down, you're trying almost a little harder for your teammate. He's swinging it great, putting me in good positions off the tee, playing from the fairway, chipping it nice a couple times when we had to, and everything has just been solid. It's just been as stress free as it can be in this kind of format.

Q. How much experience did you have in this format and what was the plan coming into today, Doc?

DOC REDMAN: Not a ton of experience. I guess the last time would have been last year and then the Walker Cup. But we played really solid last year, specifically in alternate-shot, so I think we just had a ton of confidence on that. We kept the same tees because he's been hitting -- there's some tough par-3s out there, he hits them great. So we're just kind of building off that.

Q. How did you two become teammates?

SAM RYDER: Well, it dates back to when he was not even on TOUR yet, we got paired together at Quicken Loans I think in D.C. and then we kind of just got a friendship, and when he was turning pro we actually lived together for a little bit in Atlantic Beach. We both are members at Atlantic Beach Country Club, play a lot of golf together, same coach, similar kind of games.

I think we kind of have -- in this format you can kind of start to overthink things sometimes and try and find someone that complements your weaknesses or whatever, and I think it's really great that we have similar games where we see the course the same way, and it kind of -- it's just nice and we're very comfortable with each other. We're competitive. It's like a college teammate. You're in good friendly competition with each other so we kind of bring out the best in each other, I think.

Q. I just want to know if it's a natural team with the mustache game that you've got going, and how many comments have you gotten out there about it?

DOC REDMAN: Yeah, we've gotten a decent amount of comments. He brings it out every now and then and I usually rock it pretty consistently, so it's natural, it's very comfortable, and nice to just give the people what they want.

Q. Who's got the better mustache?

SAM RYDER: I'll give it to Doc. It's not as regular for me.

DOC REDMAN: I told PGA TOUR Radio we're just happy that van Rooyen is not here because he'd steal our thunder.
