Quick Quotes

Q. Guys, good round today. Yesterday a lot of laughs, a lot of lighthearted stuff. Today it translates to a 7-under 65. Just a few comments on the back and forth and how you guys felt.

VIKTOR HOVLAND: I feel like we got off to a nice start. Collin certainly made a bunch of birdies, and I was just trying to keep up with him. I made a couple myself, but I was out of position a little too much today. I wish I could have helped Collin a little bit. Collin played some great golf.

Yeah, hopefully we can kind of play more what we're capable of, and we should have a good tournament.

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Yeah, just like Viktor said, we started out really nice, and we kind of stalled out on the back side, the front nine. We got a birdie coming in on 7.

For us, I think we're still going to be as confident as ever. This is kind of the format we're looking forward to for tomorrow. Even with a kind of mediocre day to still be at 7-under, four off the lead, hopefully stay four by the end of the day. We're still right there with formats to come.

Q. Boys, I want to just quickly ask you, in front of you an ancient man Jay Haas and his son also shot 7-under today. Jay was the one who did most of the work, the majority of the birdies. Can you quantify what that's like to see someone, past Champions Tour sort of effort, but just to do what he did there?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: We were talking about that earlier where this course has a handful of holes that are really, really tough, like you've got to hit a really good drive, and you've got probably a long iron in, a few par-3s that you have long irons in. So that's really impressive. It really is.

Some of these par-3s are playing over 200 yards, and to have a birdie chance inside 15, 20 feet is a good shot already. So what Jay did today, very, very impressive.

Q. Do you expect -- he's coming up on 800 starts on TOUR. Can you guys even imagine getting to 800?

VIKTOR HOVLAND: We've got a long ways to go (Laughter).

COLLIN MORIKAWA: No, I can't imagine that (Laughter).

VIKTOR HOVLAND: That's cool. He must have seen some stuff. He must have some pretty good stories. That's a lot of events.

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Sungjae Im might be close to that, though (Laughter).

VIKTOR HOVLAND: He's on pace.
