Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, USA

Harbour Town Golf Links

Quick Quotes

Q. Patrick, just give us an assessment of that 5-under 66 today.

PATRICK CANTLAY: It was really solid. I hit a lot of good shots, drove the ball pretty well, and left my ball in easy spots to get up and down, which is kind of the key around here.

Q. Did you notice a difference in the wind from when you started to kind of the second nine? Was it a little stronger?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Definitely by the time we got out to the point there on 17 and 18 it started blowing. It was pretty breezy our back nine, so the front nine. It can make that front nine really difficult because the drives are really tight. There's not a lot of space. So when you have a crosswind, it's difficult. That's all you want.

Q. Patrick, do you -- this is one of those courses you seem to play pretty well when you're here. What is it about this course that suits you?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I think it demands you to think and be really precise and leave your golf ball in the right spots. You don't necessarily have to hit big high driving range shots all day. You can kind of work your way around the golf course.

That was kind of what I did today. Hit a lot of nice chips and left my ball in a spot where I could do that.

Q. Do you call on those kind of good feelings from the past here when you're going around it currently?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, definitely. I think there's some local knowledge to this place, so having those good results in the past definitely helps going forward.

Q. Patrick, I know the week at the Masters wasn't what you were hoping for. What did you do the last couple days to kind of maybe reset a little bit but also work on a few things?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, just normal prep for another week. This is going to be the second of three in a row for me, so just took a day off on Monday and started prepping and preparing for this golf course out here.

Q. Is the adjustment on the greens from Augusta to here, I would imagine about as wide a variance as you're going to see all year? Is it as drastic as we would think? Are you able to just immediately flip the switch?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I'd say it's pretty drastic. There's hardly two surfaces that are more different on TOUR. So, yeah, it's a pretty big difference, but we're used to it. Every week it's different grass, it's different weather. So it only takes a day or two to adjust.

Q. Is it nice to see flat compared to roller coasters?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I like it all. I like this golf course. I liked the golf course last week. It's just an adjustment.

Q. You played last year. I'm not sure about the year before. But limited fans last year and none the year before. Did you notice a difference today? It's a small, tight course. Did you notice a difference with fans out there today?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, we've had the fans out here for a while. Last year with no fans feels like a long time ago. It was great out there. Fans are always really, really good here. They've obviously had the tournament for a long time. They're one of the more knowledgeable fan bases out here.

Q. Do you seem to notice them more on this tight, congested golf course?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Notice them more at Augusta when there's a ton of them. It was pretty tame out here. Hopefully it will pick up on the weekend.
