MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 10, 2022

Harold Varner

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. How much fun did you have here the last few days?

HAROLD VARNER III: I had a great time. It makes it a lot better playing the way I did today. Just have to learn from yesterday and just keep doing what I'm doing. Obviously, it's working.

Q. What would you say are the lessons you take from here?

HAROLD VARNER III: I have to figure out what to wear when it's cold. Maybe like wear something, take a jacket off while I hit, but I'll get to it. I just have never been -- my swing is already short enough, and then any restriction, it's like -- yeah, I don't know.

Q. You talk about the clothing. The swing is perfect, you say, and the game is perfect and everything. It's clothing? That's the issue?

HAROLD VARNER III: It didn't help. It didn't help at all. I had on a lot of it. I wasn't cold for sure. Like I said, just got to keep learning, keep getting better. Yeah, this is a good start. I think this is my best finish in a major.

Q. Your best Masters ever?

HAROLD VARNER III: Yeah, it's got to be.

Q. How do you assess what you were able to do today, man, especially after yesterday?

HAROLD VARNER III: You do what competitors do. You respond. I think you do that in life, you'll go a long ways.

Q. With the goals that you have in your career, coming here, does it make you want to play better when you go back out so you can get back?

HAROLD VARNER III: It makes me want to win this thing. That stuff will take care of itself. Yeah, I just want to win, and winning gets you here. Just focusing on that, and obviously, if I keep getting better, I'm going to keep getting closer, once again, keep learning and use those things and don't just sit there and just let it go and play good the next day. Learn from it so that it doesn't happen again that severely, I think.

Q. What do you think will be your favorite memory from this week?

HAROLD VARNER III: I don't know. It was pretty cool.

Two things. We got a chef. It's the first time I've ever had a chef, and I didn't leave the house. When the rain delays came, I just sat in the house with people that I like a lot, and I take pride in that. On Sunday I got to play the golf course with two people that I really care about, which is pretty cool.

Q. Do you kind of see this as a springboard moment for you, Harold, considering the way you've been playing? Like you said, best finish in a major.

HAROLD VARNER III: I wouldn't say a springboard. I just think it's a part of the process. It's a part of having a chance to win. Yesterday was tough, obviously, what I shot, but just how can I grow from that and learn from that?

The cool part about today is I think the pins will be in similar spots next year when I'm here, and I'll know kind of what to do, get a good feel for what I need to do to score.

Q. The last thing, compared with your expectations before coming here, how was it? Things that were different that you --

HAROLD VARNER III: I didn't expect to win, but I expected to contend, and we were really close. That kind of pisses me off a little bit, but, yeah, I expect to do that every week now that I'm playing well.

Butch was here, so that was pretty cool. He doesn't travel anymore, so it was pretty cool. This morning he gave me a speech. I knew I was in trouble when he said, I'll see you at the range in ten.
