MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 9, 2022

Danny Willett

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Just walking over, I heard you use the word "tough." Describe what the challenge was like today.

DANNY WILLETT: Last three days have all been the same. It's windy. It's gusty. The greens are firming up now and getting quicker. Just a tricky day.

Again, you get the ride side of things, you can get some birdies out there, but yeah, just a tough day. We were grinding away for 1-over, so...

Q. Talk about grinding on a day like today when the leaders are so far away and trying to stay in touch. How do you think about that challenge?

DANNY WILLETT: Yeah, you've just got to try and stay within touching distances to where if you make a run tomorrow you can have a good finish. That is kind of where it would be. I think there's going to be three guys at probably 6-under par and better.

So if you can look at fourth place at 3 or 4-under par, that's a real nice target to try and get to. Yeah, we've just got to stay in there, so if you do make a run at some point, the run is to get nice up into the leaderboard to make a nice little dent in the field.

Q. What was the toughest part of the conditions today? Was it just like the wind's been up the past couple days? Was it kind of the cold weather maybe?

DANNY WILLETT: Again, your numbers are slightly off with it being colder. When it's a cold wind it hits it more. You get a lot of these shots into and you're trying to flight them down. Your body's a little bit cold anyway at certain times.

Yeah, just the ball is not going quite as far as it's been the past couple days. So just a really tough day to get everything spot on. Obviously you've got the best players in the world. If they play well, guys are still going to shoot good scores.

So, yeah, fingers crossed we can be within touching distance to make a run and have a pretty good finish tomorrow.

Q. How impressive is what Scottie Scheffler is doing right now?

DANNY WILLETT: We were on 15 tee and we heard a big roar and we genuinely thought Scottie had holed a second shot to go to 13, which would have been a little bit outrageous.

No, it's looking a little bit more normal now with guys kind of four and five back, but he's playing some great golf. I think these past couple months he's been on a phenomenal run. It's going to take a big old hiccup tomorrow to see anyone else catching.

Q. Guys are in ski caps and down jackets, and you're wearing short sleeves.

DANNY WILLETT: When the sun came out it was okay. Remember Descente is a ski company, so it's warmer than it looks.

Q. Is everybody soft and you're tougher than everybody?

DANNY WILLETT: No. I'm usually warm anyways. When the sun came out it was okay. No worries. It's still cold, but it's not as bad as it was.
